Jane Skingley paints seascapes and landscapes in oils. Her first exhibition was a huge success and since then she has gone from strength to strength exhibiting in galleries and art shows all over the country. In 2008 her work was selected from a long list of hopefuls to be exhibited at the summer season at the prestigious Glyndebourne opera house. Skingley’s mainly large scale paintings focus on the mood evoked by the sea. She spent much of her childhood sailing around the British coast, which remains her inspiration. She now enjoys pottering by the sea with her children, crabbing, rock pooling and making sandcastles at her family beach hut in the Witterings. Her paintings are notable in the way they capture the energy and power of the elements. Sometimes headlands or rocks are included as well as acres of wet sand. She works in the studio from photographs and sketches taken during trips and holidays. Working in oils, Skingley builds up layers of colour to achieve richness and depth. The paintings are produced instinctively, evoking mood and atmosphere rather than a search for realism. Paint is applied by brush, hand, palette knife and even by flicking and each painting takes weeks to complete all the layers.

A128 - Abstract Blue Painting on Canvas Natural Wood Frame Original Schmidli
By Marco Schmidli
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Swiss-born artist Marco Schmidli creates large-scale minimalist paintings reminiscent of color field studies with a contemporary edge. Placing emphasis on process, he lets the mediums naturally manifest within his artwork. “An important aspect of my artwork is the removal of my own artistic hand. Instead of controlling and demanding the paint move and act a certain way, I let the paint naturally manifest and express its pure form/ true colors/ most natural movement.” Schmidli's work is known for its sensitive surfaces and subtle textures. He has developed specialized techniques for applying and layering color, giving depth to his large-scale paintings.
This 11-inch high by 9-inch wide and 1-inch deep original artwork is an abstract composition in acrylic on wood. It is framed in a natural wood frame. Size and price include frame. It is signed on the back. Convenient local Los Angeles area shipping. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping also available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included.
Schmidli studied photography and fine art in Switzerland and Rome. He worked as a photographer and painter in Zurich and then in 1989 he moved to California. Schmidli has been creating large-scale artworks since. He has developed specialized techniques for applying and layering color. His artworks have been featured in the film and entertainment industry, such as fashion photography, celebrity portraits, music videos, films, editorials, and at red carpet events.
Schmidli has set a new standard for large-scale contemporary abstract works in Los Angeles. His original paintings have appeared in highly respected magazine publications, such as Vogue, Flaunt, and Harper’s Bazaar. His work has also been featured in fashion spreads of iconic international brands such as Nike and Balenciaga.
