About the Item
This oil on canvas work, "Industrial Park ", presents in charcoal and raw umber tones. A lifelong painter and sculptor, American abstract artist, Jane Whitehurst’s creative vision and sense of color and form have rendered an eclectic resume of accomplishments. Whitehurst’s paintings and sculptures have been exhibited and collected nationwide. After having worked in several mediums, her favorite is still abstract painting for its immediacy and spontaneous expression from what she refers to as her “Basic Self.” As Whitehurst explains, “Abstract Painting appeals to me because I can express myself through line, color, scale and texture. The viewer, young or old can read the work through their emotional response to these elements.” Much of her work is from this spontaneous flow, set to music chosen to move her as she surrenders the brush to unconscious motion. “My hand responds as if dancing across the canvas. When I step back, I see areas that may be enhanced, or taken away.”
