About the Item

This 36" x 36" abstract mixed media painting is by Washington state artist, Janice Tayler. This painting exhibits a dynamic interplay of color, texture, and composition characteristic of abstract expressionism. The gestural brushstrokes, dripping techniques, and layering of paint suggest the influence of action painting. The color palette is rich with warm hues—predominantly pinks, purples, and browns—contrasted by cooler accents of teal and black. The juxtaposition of colors creates depth and movement, reinforcing the idea of chromatic dynamism. The surface treatment displays impasto and delicate washes, suggesting a fusion of controlled application and spontaneous drips. The fragmentation and overlapping forms engage the viewer in a dialogue about spatial ambiguity and visual perception, reminiscent of gestural abstraction. The absence of representational imagery allows for multiple interpretations, reflecting the emotive and psychological intensity that abstract expressionism seeks to convey. "My mixed media compositions are made of oil paint, newspaper and sand. They refer directly to urban life and the natural environment. I use images from photographs and drawings of the devastation of the urban landscape from natural and manmade disasters, architectural skeletal structures such as unfinished construction or demolished sites, partly finished bridges, abandoned and decaying industrial sites. These images I juxtapose with images of organic, abstracted rocks, roots, trees and water. Typically, I use many layers of scraping back and adding. I loosely base my compositions on that of classical landscape painting with the positioning of forms carefully placed to present a harmonious, balanced and timeless visual aesthetic. In my palette choices I explore color combinations that are unexpected in contrast with those found in nature. I maintain that only through abstraction can the viewer tap into their unconscious and access the sublime in their imagination." Janice Tayler Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Tayler now resides with her husband in the Pacific North West. Since 2004 she has sold and exhibited her work across Canada, the USA and Europe. In Canada she is represented by Warehouse Artworks, Wayne Arthur Gallery and Gallery Lacosse in Winnipeg. In the USA she is represented by Ryan James Gallery in Kirkland, Seattle and 1515 Lincoln Gallery in Oklahoma City.

'I'll Be Back, ' by XVALA, Mixed Media Painting
By XVALA
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
'I'll Be Back,' by XVALA is a mixed media painting and colorful screen print with iridescent oil stick painting featuring the theme of the 'New World Order.' It was produced in 2015/16. The phrase 'I'll Be Back' is printed on the top and bottom margins of the work with the words 'New World Order' on the top margin. Three heads are stacked in the center of the canvas with the 'all seeing eye' on the top of the head. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His 'Fear Google' campaign exposed the decay of privacy and 'No Delete' used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. The artist has worked with trash from the homes of Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and others, as well as dirt from the graves of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The dirt appears in the New World Order collection as part of a pyramidal, 3D printed, living ant farm...

'Solarium', by Anthony Dyke, Oil on Canvas Painting, 2022
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
Anthony Dyke's "Solarium," a 74 x 48 x 1.25 inch oil on canvas painting, references solar flares in its use of shape and color. The bright values of yellows, reds and blues surround a large red circular shape. The bright color wavelengths give this painting a vibrational energy. Anthony Dyke was born in Norwich, Vermont and attended The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University earning a BFA and MFA in painting. As an artist and arts educator, he relocated from New York City to his down¬town Oklahoma City studio, working there for two decades before returning to Boston in 2020. Coming from VERMONT where the seasons are distinctly different from one another. My shift from a pastoral setting to an urban environment set up a dichotomy in my work, both visual and emotional. I have an extensive education in painting, photography, graphic design and figure sculpture. These mediums intersect in my work through many years of creating artworks and currently speak to my interest in abstract painting. During my senior year in the BFA Program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, my large painting “Natole” was chosen by Frank Stella (the juror) into the highly competitive and prestigious Dana Pond...
