About the Item

Jay Walker's Luminescent Polygons, painted on archival artist's paper with deckled edges, are infused with an internal light or glow, in much the same way that gems glow. Walker creates a 3D effect with simplified forms by using complementary and contrasting colors. Against a flat background, the polygons pop with color and texture: blue-green on deep red-orange; dense colors against light ones. Walker's paintings work particularly well in a pair or series -- see photo gallery for other works in the series, each sold separately, but could be combined for shipping at no additional charge. All are signed, dated, and titled in the lower margin. 26" x 20" artwork is floated white, archival acid-free mat board and framed to 32" x 24" in a white wood frame with UV protected acrylic glazing. Walker is best known for his large-scale, site-specific Street Art installations and collector's pieces created with laser-cut vinyl, colored acrylic sheets, artist-made stencils, tape, and paint. His use of pattern, lines, color, and geometry references the aesthetic traditions of Sol Lewitt and Henri Matisse, applied to the contemporary experience. Walker earned his MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, and his BFA from Texas A&M at Corpus Christi. He has had international commissions across the US and internationally, and solo exhibitions at galleries throughout the mid-Atlantic and southwest.
