About the Item
Each section of this exquisite mosaic is a painted jewel. Multiple layers of loose gestural brushwork create images that hover on the edge of abstraction.
Mostly known for her fondness for the abstracted still life, Jennifer Hornyak draws inspiration from what surrounds her. Hornyak’s paintings reveal sophisticated colour mixing and generous textures, and are both intimate and universal. She studied at the Grimsby School of Art before moving to Canada. Her paintings have been shown in senior galleries and collections in Europe and North America.
Born in England, Jennifer Hornyak moved to Canada in 1961, and she now has a vigorous studio practice in Montreal. Her semi-figurative, almost abstract still life compositions are built up through a complex technique of rich blue, red, green, pink and white glazes.
Hornyak was invited to participate in the World Exhibition in Paris in 1987 along with Modigliani, Picasso and van Dongen. Her work has been exhibited throughout Europe and North America.
