About the Item

Jody Rasch’s work is drawn from various science practices, including astronomy, biology, and sub-atomic physics. In his subject matter and technique, Rasch builds on historical concepts and movements from Pointillism and Constructivism to Dada and Surrealism, which were influenced by science. Abstract yet recognizable to scientists, Rasch brings images to a more human scale by enlarging the infinitesimally small or closing the distance to cosmic phenomena, making these hidden and remote elements of the universe relatable to our existence in it. His works are an expression of both the patterns of the natural world and the metaphors underlying modern science. They allow us to observe the unseen to more clearly see our world, reminding us that there is more to the universe than meets the eye. "The core element of life is our cells. This image uses cryo electron microscopy to give the most detailed image of a cell. It allows us to peer into the basic building blocks that create life." - Jody Rasch

Artist Commentary: For ten years I lived in Minnesota and had a studio in Northeast Minneapolis, which I loved. When I moved to the city, I began to paint compositions of abstracted crowds of people as imagined from above. Can you envision this painting as a large crowd of people? You can hang this either horizontally or vertically. A little impressionistic in expression, this painting also reminds me of a garden of happy flowers. Keywords: color, abstract, movement, motion, circles, yellow, bubbles, gray, orange, colorful, texture, busy Details about the piece: - This is a hand painted, original painting - Created in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - Artist now lives and works in Baltimore, Maryland, USA - Professional grade oil paints and ArtResin on wood panel - Other materials include professional grade watercolor and oil pastel - Wood Panel with Birchwood face and 1.5" Poplar wood cradle - Ready to hang with wires and D ring - Signed on the back - Certificate of authenticity and care sheet included with original Artist Biography: Farida Hughes’ lively and intriguing abstract paintings take their inspiration from the gathering and dispersing of crowds, group relationships, and shared histories and stories of people. She developed her abstract mixed media style, and methods of mixing oil paint with resin, after many years of painting with oil paint and experimenting with oil painting mediums. Hughes studied Studio Art and English at Fordham University in New York and received an MFA in Painting from the University of Chicago. Her work is exhibited widely in galleries and art centers and collected nationally. She is currently represented by Walker Fine Art...

Jeremy Hoffeld's work plays with ambiguity, and subverts the notion that one must choose between "abstraction and figuration, the new and the borrowed or even clichéd, the bright and the muddy, the natural/primordial and the synthetic/modern." For Hoffeld, "paintings, both abstract and figurative, have always been linked with music and literature. He aims to infuse his paintings with...improvisation, spontaneity, and energy." Hoffeld has had several solo shows since 2006 at galleries in New York including John Davis Gallery, Varga Gallery, Sky-Tree Gallery and Art Center, and the Catskills Gallery, as well as Galerie Hugo Cassel in Berlin and the Emily Harding Gallery...
