About the Item
John Vitale works on many canvases at once, moving between them, adding brushstrokes in acrylic paint, house paint and mark making with pencil and China markers. His process is intuitive, a sort of push and pull finding tension, leading to visual harmony, only to generate more tension with a subsequent mark. "R Train" refers to the artist's subway trips in NYC, and reflects a moment in time, expressed as an abstraction.
Vitale lives and works in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In addition to his career as a painter, he owns a skateboard brand and is an avid skateboarder.
