About the Item

Large Scale Mid-Century Earth-tone Horizontal Abstract by Joseph Vasica Very large scale (70"H x 160"W) (5.8'H x 13.3'L) mid-century abstract with soft edge, grey and burnt sienna medallion with beige and white surround with a modernist southwest vibe by famous California artist Joseph Vasica (American, 1921-2008), circa 1960. Thick layers of merging colors gives a soft focus look, in this monumental horizontal piece. Signed "Vasica". This would be stunning in a residential or commercial installation where a capstone piece is needed but doesn't overwhelm. (Rolled canvas shipping option permits for faster and economical delivery.) Canvas is shown with the edges visible for contrast definition, once stretch the painting covers to the edges of the paint with no border visible. Measurement doesn't include visible bare canvas edges. Born in Vienna, Austria, in 1921, Vasica immigrated to Canada during World War II and then to the United States in 1960. After traveling throughout the country he settled in San Francisco calling it home for 44 years. He was an accomplished San Francisco artist, his paintings are held in museums and private collections. His works were highly praised by Alfred Frankenstein, a leading art critic of the era. His abstractions of the 1960's and 1970's are considered his most outstanding works and have been compared to Albrecht Durer by many art critics. His works are included in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), the former Volante Collection (artists and collectors, specializing in early to mid 20th Century art and sculpture. His work was exhibited in 1970 at and is currently held in the collection of the Boise Gallery of Art, Boise, Idaho (known today as the Boise Art Museum). In 1971, he exhibited at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in a one man show. In 1977, Vasica exhibited at a one man show at the Hoover Gallery, San Francisco. He was also part of a group show at this same gallery in 1979. In 1980, he exhibited at the Vorpal Gallery in Soho, NY. His works were handled by the Pomeroy Galleries in San Francisco, CA for many years. He and his work is included in the book entitled San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Painting and Sculpture Collection. He is also listed in the book Art of San Francisco 1945-1980: An Illustrated History, by Thomas Albright. He was featured 7 times in the magazine Architectural Digest: January/February 1972 pg. 24; September 1972 pg. 66; September/October 1976, pg. 109; July/August 1978 pg. 106; December 1980 PG.69; September 1985 PG.181; September 1986 pg.179.

Large Modernist Abstract Painting (1of 2 available)
By Gregg Robinson
Located in Surfside, FL
Gregg Robinson, American (born 1948) "Cipher Bar 20" Oil on Canvasboard Panel. Artist signed, title and dated 1990 far right. Very minor rubbing to paint. Panel measures 15-1/4" H x 63-1/2" W, frame measures 24-1/4" H x 72-1/4" GREGG ROBINSON The universe of visual art encompasses a huge spectrum of motivation and means of expression. Examples range from the most syrupy sentimentality to extremes of moral and intellectual confrontation. For me, the creative process is, on the simplest level, an aesthetic puzzle. Elements of the puzzle include contrast, color, visual texture, graphic pattern, and in some recent work, a simple cryptic symbolism. I have never been particularly interested in lyric or pictorial content, and though some of my work does contain undeniable spatial illusion, even that tends to be a by-product rather than a goal of the primary pursuit: the balance of light and dark, pure color and organic neutrals, energy and calm, strong pattern and subtle field. Having grown up in an environment of contemporary architecture, I have always valued the classic modern synthesis of form and function exemplified by the Bauhaus movement of the early 20th century. Hence, the simplest solutions are often the most satisfying. Obviously, the modernist ideal of efficiency in form and function requires that method of execution be as well adapted to the aesthetic goal as the visual language itself. The media before you is the result of many years of experimentation that came to its current form in early 1992. I work with dry pigment over a plaster surface. My tools are broad knives, sponges, rags and masking. The finish is a high gloss alkyd resin. CORPORATE COLLECTIONS: Allstate Insurance NBC Productions Alaska...

Desert Bloom, geometric abstract painting, mid-century modern earth tone palette
By Kazaan Viveiros
Located in Dallas, TX
"Desert Bloom" is a striking modern geometric abstract painting, with an earth tone mid-century modern contemporary palette. It is painted directly onto panel, with a custom built wooden substrate. The sides show beautifully smoothed wood. Kazaan Viveiros has a background in architecture studies as well as fine art, and this shows in her clean and contemporary works. Artist Kazaan Viveiros earned a BA with distinction from the University of Virginia in Studio Art and Religious Studies, and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. She has since exhibited work in solo and group exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe, including solo shows in New York, San Francisco, Berkeley, Scottsdale, AZ, Richmond, VA, and Savannah, GA. In 2003, curator Raffaella Guidobono gave Viveiros a show at TAD Concept Store in Rome. Viveiros’s paintings have been collected by a wide array of corporations, including eBay and Capital One Bank, as well as by individuals such as WalMart’s Rob Walton and novelist Danielle Steel. Her large diptych, The Whale, was purchased by Banner Children’s Hospital and currently hangs in their radiology ward. Summit Medical Group MD Anderson Cancer Center in New Jersey has many of her works in their collection. In addition, five of Viveiros’s paintings were purchased by the Art in Embassies Program and are permanently installed in the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She was a 2011 Bethesda Painting Awards semi-finalist, was twice chosen as a visiting artist at the Torpedo Factory Art...
