"Super Bloom" is featured in Kathryn Markel Fine Arts' 2024 Exhibition, "Josette Urso: Wildcard." The show provides a comprehensive look at recent evolutions and transformations in Josette Urso's body of work. Urso's work, in her own words, "involves moment-to-moment extrapolation governed by intuitive leaps of scale, color, and wayward geometry." The show envisions recent musings by the artist in response to the world around her.
"Super Bloom," clad in bold scarlet, mustard, and cobalt hues--envisions Urso's "wayward geometry." The piece mediates between the pictorial plane and its viewer's space with intuitively exacted lines and fragmented geometric elements. At once, "Super Bloom" materializes both the nature of Urso's practice and the work's namesake: A great, whimsical burst of organic vitality.

Josette Urso
Josette Urso is the recipient of grants from The Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation and The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, The Basil H. Alkazzi Award, USA, and has been honored with residencies at Yaddo, UCross Foundation and The Millay Colony for the Arts in the United States, as well as residencies in Spain, Germany, Ireland, Cambodia and Taiwan. Urso’s artwork has been acquired by numerous museums and private collections worldwide, including The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx, NY, Tampa Museum of Art, Tampa, FL, Stadtmuseum, Schwandorf, Germany and Springfield Museum of Art, Springfield, OH, to name a few. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

This original contemporary abstract oil painting on canvas by Deborah Dancy is comprised of blue, orange, cream, and black hues in her signature built up/re-built space.
Deborah Dancy is an abstract artist. Her paintings and drawings are sensuous provocations beset with marks that guide, then abruptly collide into confrontational slabs of color. There is an atmosphere of complex but urgent tension in her work, as she builds tangential linear demarcations, and abutting shapes, that provoke, entice and disrupt; -taking us everywhere and nowhere. From densely painted forms to more minimally declared images, Dancy’s work operates in the recognition that meanderings, intentional and accidental declarations are best when the beautiful and the disconcerting exist simultaneously.
Deborah Dancy was born in Bessemer, Alabama and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She earned BFA from Illinois Wesleyan University and an MS and an MFA from Illinois State University. She is the recipient of John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, a Yaddo Fellow, and a National Endowment of the Arts NEFA award.
