About the Item
"Abstract Rhythms" invites us to explore the visual universe of the artist Juan Carlos Amador, who, through his unique perspective, translates the pulsations of space and the invisible vibrations of the world into abstract forms and vibrant colors. In this series, Amador takes us beyond representation, offering a sensory experience that seeks to capture the immaterial and ephemeral nature of reality.
Each work in "Abstract Rhythms" is the artist's personal interpretation of the dynamism that inhabits nature and human beings. Through a palette of intense colors and forms that intertwine and blur, Amador recreates a visual symphony where the viewer is invited to discover new rhythms, new cadences, in a constant interplay of movement and stillness. His work is not limited to the visual; it is a language that appeals to sensation, transmitting the latent energy in what is not seen, but is felt.
Amador challenges traditional perception, leading the viewer to a space where abstraction not only becomes form, but a vehicle for understanding the beats of time, the intensity of the wind, the pulsation of ideas. In each of his pieces, lines and colors seem to be in perpetual motion, creating an atmosphere that invites us to lose control of our gaze and immerse ourselves in an experience where the boundaries between stillness and movement vanish.
Juan Carlos Amador López is a multimedia artist, born in Mayagüez and raised on the coast of Aguadilla. He has dedicated himself to the visual arts since completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus, with his creative emphasis placed on the concept of color. Through his contemporary works, he revisits and reevaluates the Neo-Impressionist pictorial method—also known as Divisionism—characteristic of the late 19th-century movement.
His recent abstractions display a unique style and focus on optical color combinations, ranging from the fragmented application of pure pigmentation to extensive, oval shapes of semi-opaque pigments. Amador superimposes these translucent color patches with the intention of filling the plane with an assortment of hues frozen in a process of transformation. Free from the burden of a specific narrative or message, the meaning of these works depends on the appreciation of each viewer—on their individual and biological capacity to instantly perceive, comprehend, and interpret color introspectively.
Juan Carlos Amador has exhibited his work both within and outside of Puerto Rico, with his most recent exhibition having been on the island of Saint Thomas. His work is also part of important local and international private collections.

About the Artist:
"I contemplate every color, mark, and placement of the line to formulate what I call rhythmic velocities: relationships of color and motion that give life to the composition, creating a heartbeat. I am interested in the duality of math and design: through repetition, a line made of color becomes a rhythmic pattern. This concept is found when composing music, organic landscapes and architectural structures. By referencing these sources, my abstractions transcend their formal components, reaching beyond a minimalist canon. My work is composed of hard edges and thin lines set against an abstract field or a pictorial space. Each color has a quickness that is relative to the colors surrounding it; this gives my paintings visual movement and dislocates the viewer. Through linear and geometric forms, my paintings explore design and mathematical concepts found broadly throughout culture. They are improvised from a wide range of sources such as my conversations...
