Juan Jose Hoyos Quiles
History of Modern Painting (Crown For Basquiat), Painting, Acrylic on Canvas

2018

About the Item

Exhibited at... "Zip, Bang, Pop! Run! It's The Cops!: Contemporary Pop Art and It's Influence On Street Art" National Invitational Exhibition, June 29-July 20, 2018 Hue Gallery of Contemporary Art Wichita, KS This painting, which might be the beginning of a new series started with an idea of mine to paint three different images which are appropriations or reinterpretations in the style of modern painters. However, I change it up a little bit. For instance the image on the right is in the style of Mondrian, but the black lines are thinner and the colors are pastel. The middle image is an obvious take off of a Ellsworth Kelly and the image on the left is inspired by Ann Edholm and Carmen Herrera. My desire is to mix up, mash up, re-mix different styles and in the process turn up something new. My working process is always highly intuitive and spontaneous. As always I'm attracted to hard edges, bold color and geometric tendencies. The painting is titled, signed and dated on the back. :: Painting :: Abstract :: This piece comes with an official certificate of authenticity signed by the artist :: Ready to Hang: Yes :: Signed: Yes :: Signature Location: Titled signed and dated on the back :: Canvas :: Landscape :: Original :: Framed: No

The artist describes her creative process as one that draws from imagination, reflection, and intuition, resulting in works that mediate between chance and order. She states: “I build up my paintings with multiple layers of fluid acrylic paint, creating a conversation between light, color and space. I strive for a balance between open and cluttered spaces; orbs of vivid color bump up against intricate and tightly woven, grid-like areas of paint. This process, in play with the materials, results in graphic networks drawing on traditions of color field painters as well as contemporary works by Elizabeth Neel...

Through observation of urban architectural and structural elements, Core Jane Glasser documents the passage of time via the effects of light – both sunlight and artificial, and our relationship with built and natural environments. Exploring tensions between old and new, solid and void, presence and absence, the artist composes an abstract diary of shifting color and form, creating an evocative and magnetic sense of time and place. Glasser’s paintings, drawings, and installations have been exhibited in group and solo shows nationally and internationally, including exhibitions at the Gallery at F.I.T,, Pelham Art Center, Ely Center for Contemporary Art, Morris Museum, Roger Smith...

    By Carolanna Parlato
    Located in New York, NY
Carolanna Parlato uses her vibrant, diaphanous puffs of color to punctuate the layered textures of paint beneath them. These bold visual interruptions stand in stark contrast to their tightly-woven acrylic neighbors; an explosive surprise in the otherwise ordered mesh-like ground. Carolanna Parlato has exhibited widely in New York City and throughout the U.S. since the 1990s. Her paintings have been written about in numerous publications including The New York Times, Art in America, The Boston Globe, Artcritical, ArtNews, The New Criterion, White Hot Magazine, and The Brooklyn Rail. Solo exhibitions include the Islip Art Museum; the Phatory (NYC); Elizabeth Harris Gallery (NYC); and Morgan Lehman Gallery...
