“Naturally 1” 14 x 11 inches is a one-of-a-kind original, modern, contemporary abstract painting by Juanita Bellavance. In this highly expressive abstract work, Juanita combined earthy brown tones with blues, blacks and grays. . In the nature-inspired painting, the viewer is invited into a feeling of midnight and nature’s free form expressed in botanical-like shapes. These neutral tones can be a reflection of any season.
About the artist: Juanita Bellavance uses her mastery of color and technique to create abstract landscape impressionism and abstract expressionist paintings. Having previously majored in music with a focus on performance, Juanita enjoys the freedom abstract forms of modern music and abstract art provide. She wanted to go beyond recording the obvious. The subject has changed but the depth of emotion remains. As with music that comes from the heart and moves the soul, her intention to create emotional impact remains the same.
Her paintings are a visual removal of chaos and disorder to quieten the noise of the environment. There is a deep desire to create an instant of pause and connection such that a feeling is experienced. There are layers of history within each painting that lingers on the surface, leaving a richness beyond the obvious.
"In college, I once went to an Atlanta Symphony concert where there was a guest vocal soloist. She performed a modern piece where she used her voice to make the piano strings vibrate and sound as part of the melody. She held the entire audience spellbound. Throughout the performance, you could have heard a pin drop.
She did it with such mastery and it was so unexpected to hear something that stellar at that point in my life that I leaped to my feet to applaud at the end. I almost never gave standing ovations because it takes a lot to cause me to lose myself to the point of jumping up. Her performance did.
That sort of momentarily stunned sensation is what I seek in my art. Sometimes the result causes it. Sometimes the act of making art causes it. Sometimes my art reminds me of an experience like described here. Either way, it's what drives me in almost all of my life endeavors, playing music, teaching music, making art, teaching art, being with family. All of it."

Juanita Bellavance
A native of Marietta, Georgia, Juanita Bellavance is an American contemporary impressionist landscape painter. Her work delves into the scene with a search for beauty in the often unnoticed spaces, especially around water. She loosens up the forms into something between the familiar and the uncertain. Ultimately, Juanita's goal is to have you experience a moment of pause, the awe and wonder we experience in nature, music and special life moments. Those moments we want to linger in the mind. Having formerly been a music educator of elementary-age children, Bellavance relates her art-making process to the process of writing music. Tone on tone, creating harmony. Mark upon mark, creating a rhythmic pattern. Shape upon shape, creating melodic contours. She considers her work to be a song telling a story and creating a relationship between the canvas and her inner spirit. Her results often exude a mysterious quality of soul and spirit creating a moment of pause and meditative ponder. In the late evenings, Juanita can be found in her studio painting in the quiet hours when all the day's busyness has ended and thoughts rise. It is a special and cherished reprieve from the day's activity.
