An original mineral painting, made with 3 layers of 24k gold leaves, natural and synthetic minerals, and sea shells (calcium carbonate) on Japanese washi paper mounted on a wood panel. Natural colors include gemstones or precious and semi-precious stones such as azurite (deep ocean blue). Because these substances consist of unique chemical and physical properties, every artwork has unique characteristics and a story to tell, with a sense of connection to the earth. It is highly textured with a matt and rich sand-like appearance. I wanted to let the materials speak as much as the story. Not necessarily in a loud manner, but to communicate the value of authenticity and how they play together as one big piece of jewelry. Beneath all the complex minerals, there are 3 layers of 24k gold leaves covering the entire 80 cm surface.
