About the Item
Primary Colour Series- White Butterfly ( It's just Another Stage of Life) is Shizico Yi's latest project, inspired by Japanese woodblock Print and the a nod to calligraphy tradition. With strokes of gilded Silver, gesso and acrylic, she orchestrates a symphony of artistic abstract expression upon this painting.
The series is a continuation of her "Sunlit Series", started from late spring 2023 and stretching into the whole year, where Shizico develop her visual language, an exploration of the healing power colours and the celebration of the sun light which bring much needed warmth after the long cold winter in the UK.
Shizico Yi embarked upon an odyssey in summer 2023 to create a series of plein air paintings. This "Sunlit Series" meticulously crafted on all mediums, gold leaf gilding on her brushstrokes captured within a restrained mono palette for each painting.
Each painting within this series aims to capture a unique facet, where the bright gilded surface engage in a dialogue with the layers of landscape. The interplay of these contrasting elements upon the textured surface of gilded silver or gold adds yet another layer of tactile fascination.
This Sunlit Series nestles within her "Golden Period," a profound exploration centred around the captivating hue of yellow. It is a colour she believes having the healing power for those afflicted by grief. The result is a breath-taking testimony to the profound connection between the materials, the subject (the deeper meaning of her garden), and the artist herself. © Shizico Yi

Dr. Shizico Yi is a London based artist, working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories . With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.
