Artist Comments
An atmospheric abstraction recalling the deep red walls of a towering canyon system. "This piece is an exploration in mark-making using a variety of tools including brayers and scrapers," says artist Karen Hansen. "I painted in a warm limited palette ranging from a beautiful deep maroon through light reds and pinks to white. The acrylic was applied in varying layers of opacity and transparency to create an atmospheric feeling."

About the Artist
Karen’s abstract paintings are best described as an exploration in color. Often monochromatic, her work is a meditative and serene improvisation in the movement and depth of paint. Whether executed in earthy shades or vibrant tones, each painting evokes a different mood for the viewer’s contemplation.
