About the Item

In Time Traveling No. 5, Katherine Filice guides us through a suspended moment—where time feels fluid, memory blurs into matter, and marks become maps. The surface carries an undercurrent of unseen forces—earth, pressure, and presence. Filice works with ink and paper to build a rhythmic, textural field that feels both ancient and newly formed. Subtle gestures drift across the surface like constellations—fragmented, searching, and poetic. This piece is less about a destination and more about what it feels like to pause mid-transit—between past and future, form and formlessness, rootedness and drift. Katherine Filice is a Northern California–based multimedia artist whose practice weaves together drawing, mark-making, and natural material processes to explore memory, connection, and the unseen. Known for her deep engagement with the forest as both subject and collaborator, Filice often buries raw canvas to allow the environment to participate in the making. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, and is held in numerous private and public collections. With a background in visual communication, Filice brings a refined balance of gesture, intention, and materiality to her increasingly introspective and process-driven practice.
