About the Item

Kathline Carr’s “Climbing the Fracture Zone” is a 40 x 30 inch abstract oil painting on canvas, painted with multiple layers of icy blues, whites and grays, overlaid with glazing medium, with areas that hint at rock, caves and cliffs. The dramatic visual references to ice climbing on frozen waterfalls, for which the painting is named, create the central focus of the painting. The canvas is stretched over lauan plywood for stability, is unframed, wired and ready to hang. Artist signature on lower right side. Kathline Carr’s paintings and prints are inspired by the experiential nature of walking in urban, forested, or mountainous areas, and their respective landscapes. “I am looking to capture pieces or shapes of a landscape, rather than a whole expansive scene.” Utilizing modes of process-based abstraction often blended with aspects of realism, Carr transposes her persona and emotional connection to environment with material exploration, working primarily with oil paint, graphite, gouache and monotype printmaking. Creating forms or spaces that blend the literal monuments of physical nature with psychological reactions to place is central to her visual oeuvre. Carr is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston, MA.
