About the Item
About the series COLOR BOMBS
I want the Color Bombs to be beacons of positivity that can radiate across the room or
whisper quietly beside you. I love the freedom and openness of color. These works
don’t bring any baggage or hidden agenda. Lately, I’ve been realizing how tied each piece
is to the landscape and season outside my window. I am constantly feeding on the wild
nature where I live, and it feels like I am mentally taking millions of pictures of what is
happening outside and instantly trying to distill those images into absolute color. Almost
as if I was zooming in and plucking out the solid pixels of pure color that speak the
season just right. Sometimes it is literal and other times it is my memory that dictates.
Because sometimes in the depths of winter I am thinking so much of Spring that I may
riff on the orange-red of a May Poppy. The memory bank of images is always changing
and old and new are interchangeable. Sometimes they are ecstatic and full of verve and
edge – like a saxophone exploding out of nowhere, or the sublime wail of a guitar rattling
the windows. But other times they search for silence and quiet, and all the notes not
played. They are like songs composed of shape and line that bask in the presence of
absolute color representing nothing but themselves.
Kurt Herrmann is a painter from central Pennsylvania who does both figurative and
abstract work but above all is a colorist at heart. Although he continues working and
living close to his roots in Pennsylvania. The past few years have
seen solo and group shows at the Shoom Gallery in St. Petersburg, Russia, The Baikmin
Museum of Bosung Gun (South Korea), and Sidewinder Gallery and Firecat Projects
(Chicago). Recent projects include three large commissions for Lock Haven University’s
recently renovated Ulmer Hall, and 2017 saw the creation of his sixth beer label for Elk
Creek Café + Aleworks in Millheim, PA.

- EQUIVALENCE 124- Acrylic on cut Linen - Red, Pink Abstract Geometric PaintingBy Linda King FergusonLocated in Signal Mountain, TNThis painting on cut linen canvas by Linda King Ferguson depicts a diamond shape that is dominated by a horizontal vesica piscis shape. The two intersecting circles are a dark salmon orange and a deep wine red (left to right). The canvas at the intersection of the two circles has been cut and peeled back to reveal that the back of the painting has been painted pink. While the trangular shape above the interseccting circles has been painted an ashy brown, the lower section has been left raw. Her Equivalence Series began as a feminist project; works that subvert the historically male gaze and a material language speaking of gendered concerns. Her color choices first came from Helen Molesworth’s essay, Painting With Ambivalence, published in WACK! Art of the Feminist Revolution. The Essay includes a large reproduction of Mary Heilmann’s 1979 painting...Category

- The Way Through, Pink and Purple Acrylic Painting, Bright Abstract ArtworkLocated in Deddington, GBShades of dark magenta and purple contrast with rich creams in this abstract composition. Paint has been built up in layers and then sanded back to reveal the history of the piece, and to create a surface full of depth and visual interest. The bold mark-making and shapes bring a lively contrast. The work is presented in a natural wood tray frame, not a wide border frame as in the in situ photos.
