About the Item
All Shades of Grey No.2
Lalani Nan received a B.F.A. in 1984 from the Atlantic College of Art. She was born in Taiwan in 1961, and lives in Woodstock, N.Y. being an only child with a mother and grandmother who were visual artists, painting and drawing were a major part of her daily life. As a young child, she was visually and emotionally impacted during an afternoon with her grandmother in a silk shop. The store clerk threw different colors of silk over the counter. each glowed under the light creating interesting creases and folds. These memories continue to inform her work.
"My painting expresses the passion I have for the tactile nature of fabrics and their topographies. With each color I create a new visual experience and meditative presence."

Lalani Nan
Lalani Nan, making art is a legacy passed to her from her mother and her grandmother. Her visual awareness and strong color sense were cultivated from a young age; painting and drawing were a major part of her daily life. As a child, Nan has a vivid memory of shopping with her grandmother in a silk shop. As the store clerk tossed different silks over the counter, each bolt glowed and shimmered with light, creating mystery as it creases and folds. This memory has never faded and became a central influence in her art. Nan’s paintings express her passion for the tactile nature of fabrics and their topographies. Each painting is built slowly with many layers of pigment, each color a building block, integral to the richness and depth of hues in her seemingly monochromatic canvases.i Nan received a BFA from the Atlanta College of Art. She works and lives in Woodstock, New York.

For over two decades, Dana Frankfort has explored the vexing periphery between language and sight by painting words. Claudia Fauth was born 1962 in Berlin. Lives and works as a singer, songwriter, visual and acoustic artist. Worked many years as an art dealer. Realizes extensive art projects around the world including the natural environment and make the unknown experienceable. She understands herself as a Quantum Philosopher. She is known for her abstract works, she often works with elements of sacred geometry.

Style : In Hindu philosophy, the 'Antahkaran' refers to the totality of two levels of mind , namely the Buddhi, the intellect or higher mind, and the Manas, the middle levels of mind which exist as or include the mental body. It refers to the entire psychological process, including mind and emotions. Ghoshal’s paintings weaves an Antahkaran, creating structural spaces, sometimes meditative & melancholic in nature. His contemplative mind, enters into the inner realm of reality, dissects it and extracts a kind of mystic silence.
The extant contemplative in wardress in him got charged with meditative spirituality through his association with this heritage city. Benaras, started flowing in his canvasses both through landscapes and human faces. Since 1995-96 his Benaras paintings started transforming. Initially his landscapes contained reflection of naturalness transformed through melancholic chiaroscuro. Gradually the naturalness started disintegrating into expressionistic structures. At a certain stage during 2004-05 some of these structures yielded into abstractions shedding all the links with naturalness. Then again the sign-symbols integrated into geometrical structures reflecting traces of original locations.

Born : Born in 1965. Tapas spent his childhood and early youth in the quiet idyllic environment of rural Bengal. The soothing lyrical landscape and the intrinsic mythical past within the rural life made a great impact in his inner being, which aroused in him love for beauty, spiritual in nature, making him contemplative and inward looking.
Educational Qualification :
1989 : Graduation in Painting from Govt.College of Art and Craft, Kolkata (First Class First)
1992 : Post Graduate in Painting from Benaras Hindu University, Varanasi (First Class).
