About the Item

Blue Square is a sculpted drawing that wants to escape the bounds of its boxed-in frame. As there is no right side up, it may be displayed in any direction. The blue centre creates a space within the space. The drawn lines at the edges are trying to contain the colour that wants to be freed. Instead of leaving the drawing as a flat square, the pinched centre is what gives the drawing its new shape that looks like it's going to take flight. The wet folding technique, applied after the drawing process is complete, creates an animated, anthropomorphic quality, as if it has its own personality. Many of Waldusky’s works have wet-folding applied after the drawing process as a second step that requires a different type of trust in the process. Because a variety of wax-based and oil-based drawing mediums are used, the colour stays put when the drawing surface is saturated with water from the reverse side. This adaptation of the wet-folding technique, sometimes used in origami, helps to give the drawing a stiffness and maintains the newly formed dimensional shape. This piece is framed in clear perspex box frame. Overall framed size is 50 x 50 x 10cm. Signature is on the back of the art. She holds an MFA from Parsons School of Design in Design and Technology and a BFA from Texas Tech University in Studio Art. Her art has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections across the USA, UK, and EU. Laura's process is both meticulous and spontaneous, starting with colour pencils on heavy cotton paper. She builds up each piece with repetitive, evolving lines, exploring abstract patterns that gradually transform through her meditative, line-by-line technique entirely done by hand. The work challenges traditional boundaries of drawing, embracing unpredictability and craftsmanship to invite viewers into a world where structure meets fluidity, and precision meets play.
