Colorful vintage abstract expressionist painting by Les (Leslie Luverne) Anderson (American, 1928-2009), circa 1970. From the estate of Les Anderson in Monterey, California. Unframed. Unsigned. Image size: 49"H x 32"W. Les Anderson owned and operated the Bear Flag Gallery in San Juan Bautista, California for many years. He is known for his plein air watercolor paintings and abstracts. Les studied at the Minneapolis School of Art and the Art Center at Los Angeles.

    Wonderful, bright colors and painterly geometries come together in this vertical abstract expressionist painting titled "The Juggler" by artist Tom Hamil (American, b. 1928). Signed and dated lower left corner "Hamil - 89". Signed and titled on verso. Presented in rustic wooden shadow box frame. Image size: 36"H x 12"W. Framed size: 38"H x 14"W x 2.5"D. Tom Hamil, was born in New York in 1928 and raised primarily in California. After attending the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, he returned to California to begin his formal art training at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco (now known as the San Francisco Art Institute). He completed his education at the University of Washington with a Master’s Degrees and Doctorate in Fine Arts and Education. His first solo exhibition was held in 1956. Since then, he has participated in numerous one man shows, group shows, and has been represented in galleries in the US and Mexico. In addition to his painting, Hamil has authored and illustrated a number of books. While at the Naval Academy, he received recognition for his paintings, drawings, and illustrations. Listed among Hamil’s many awards and honors are a Ford Foundation Fellowship and an Award of Excellence from the American Graphics Society. Dennis Eugene Norman Burton was a Canadian modernist who was born in Lethbridge, Ontario. He attended the Ontario College of Art from 1952 to 1956, and worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) as a graphic designer until 1960. Inspired by a 1955 exhibition of the “Painters Eleven” at Toronto’s Hart House, as well as American Abstract Expressionist artists such as Robert Motherwell, Jack Tworkov, and Willem de Kooning, Burton shifted his focus toward abstraction in the mid-1950s.
