About the Item

Oil on canvas Levan Urushadze is a Georgian contemporary artist born in 1960 who lives and works in Tbilisi, Georgia. Someone once wrote that "style is character", and certainly no contemporary artist whose name springs immediately to mind demonstrates this truism more effectively than the Georgian painter Levan Urushadze, who has exhibited widely throughout his own country, as well as in Moscow, Paris, New York, Vienna, Rome, Lisbon, and elsewhere. For Urushadze is a restlessly prolific talent who works in such a wide variety of figurative and abstract veins that he could conceivably put together his own group show! Not surprisingly, Levan Urushadze has painted over 7000 paintings in his long and distinguished career. Such a feat is rarely accomplished - very few artists have ever even approached being so prolific - but when we consider his outlook on life, his continual rebirths, and awakenings, and his wide-eyed romance with the world, it is no wonder that he paints so fresh, so much and so vital - as if drawing upon an everlasting overflowing opulence of inspiration. Painting from a position that insists on accentuating the positive, he stands firm and defiant against the challenges and demands of everyday life, adamant in his dedication and ability to reach deep, and relentless in his commitment to generate an astounding immensity of affirmation.
