Distant Memory St Ives and Walk This Land diptych

This painting is an abstract response to the West Country, where Liese lives and works. It contains recurring motifs of the artist, including floats and suggestions of waves. The painting is framed in a simple white tray frame.
Liese Webley has paintings available with Wychwood Art. After graduating in Fine Art at the University of Plymouth in 2000, Liese completed a PGCE in Art Teaching. Liese then lived and worked between Cyprus and Exeter, teaching and painting. Her time in Cyprus with the intense vibrancy of the Mediterranean light ignited her love of colour. This and inspiration from nature – especially the West Country coast and moorland where Liese lives – are the key themes in her work. Liese’s paintings aim to capture a snapshot of a place, a memory, an emotional response. Familiar places reappear as motifs she carries through her work. Bold, vivid colour creates a world of escapism celebrating beauty and the pure awe of nature. A common theme within Liese’s paintings is the juxtaposition between order and chaos and the dichotomy between flat, clean areas with more gestural elements.
