About the Item
This vibrant textile collage is composed of layered sheer fabrics in a luminous palette of jewel tones and saturated brights. Carefully both hand-stitched and machine-stitched, the work features overlapping rectangles that form a dynamic patchwork of transparency, color, and texture. No paint is used—color is built solely through fabric, making the piece both sculptural and painterly. Linda Kamille Schmidt, a third-generation seamstress, draws on her deep background in sewing to “paint” with fabric, merging craft and fine art. By combining hand and machine stitching, she playfully blurs the lines between high and low, tradition and innovation. Park captures the joyful energy of a city green space, abstracted into color, light, and tactile surface.

Linda Schmidt is a painter and fiber artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She is originally from Kansas and received an MA in drawing and an MFA in painting from the University of Iowa.
