Inspired by the ancient practice of alchemy, each artwork in the series embodies the journey from raw beginnings to refined conclusions. Lloyd Tabing is an abstract painter from the USA now living and working in Sweden. His paintings are a visual representation of the contrast between reality and his interpretation of this difficult word to define. concealing as much as they reveal, Tabing’s paintings intertwine gestural marks, drawing, texture, and fields of color that lure you in, tempting one to get lost in thought and emotion. Tabing’s paintings are inspired by a sense of space that he finds in both the natural and built environments. Lloyd says that he seeks to recognize and understand what makes one space more interesting or catches one’s eye while other spaces that are equally beautiful and interesting goes virtually unnoticed. Lloyd uses the physicality of paint, drawing, and color to create his abstract paintings. Typically large in scale, these paintings are a true reflection of Tabing’s personal connection to these places. A self-proclaimed perfectionist, Tabing says that being self-taught has allowed for his uninhibited and pure style of painting. While Lloyd begins his paintings with an idea or feeling his style of painting is very much reactionary and even aggressive at times, yet the finished piece always has a calming and captivating element that is pleasant thought provoking. He says that he hopes the language of his paintings in some way provides the viewer a personal connection that speaks to them in a personal way.

Abstract, 1971
By Dan Howard (b. 1931)
Unframed: 29" x 35"
Framed: 30" x 36"
Signed Lower Left
Influenced by artists of such varying styles as Caravaggio, Rembrandt, De Kooning and Jack Levine, as well as many of the German Neo-Expressionists*, Dan Howard's work often blurs the line between representational* and abstract art*. His experimentation with different canvas preparations, his use of intense colors and his expressive brush strokes have created a myriad of visual combinations in his characteristic larger-sized oil paintings. The result is an emphasis on audience participation and the role of individual interpretation. "I want to make the viewer part of the process. That makes for a richer experience," Howard says.
Throughout his career, Howard has been both a dedicated art teacher-administrator and a gifted professional artist. He chaired the departments of art at Arkansas State University, Kansas State University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Howard has received 100 prizes, awards and honors including the top awards in the three longest running national open painting competitions: Society of Four Arts, Palm Beach, Fla.; Butler Institute, Youngstown, Ohio; and Chautauqua Institution, New York.
The Omaha World-Herald has acknowledged Howard as "Nebraska's leading award-winning artist." His work is a part of more than 600 public, private and corporate collections including Hallmark Cards, West Law Publishing, United Airlines, Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing (3M), Holiday Inn...

In 1933, he enrolled at the Art Students League under the tutelage of George Grosz. Little’s early work consisted predominantly of landscapes, until 1937, when he began studying under Hans Hofmann and his work naturally shifted toward abstraction.
