About the Item
This painting is from my series titled "Essence Revealed." In this series I explore the interplay between presence and absence, employing negative space as a vital component within a minimalist approach. Each piece begins with an intricate nature-inspired drawing, which is then deliberately deconstructed. Layers of paint partially cover the original sketches, creating a dynamic conversation between what is concealed and what is revealed. This deliberate use of negative space enhances the visual tension, inviting the viewer to explore beyond the apparent simplicity. New lines, drawn into and over the painted surfaces with a mix of chalk, graphite, and colored pencil. The series encourages contemplation of the subtle complexities and stories unfolding within the layers. It reflects a journey of deconstructive artistic expression, where the expanses of negative space reveal the hidden essence.

An exploration of beauty and energy, Tabing’s paintings are a visual representation of the dichotomy between reality and his simplified interpretation of that indescribable noun reality. Concealing as much as they reveal, Lloyds paintings intertwine gestural marks, textures and fields of color that lure you in, tempting one to get lost in thought and emotion. His reactionary process combined with his use of deliberate, bold brushstrokes create both an uncomplicated and powerful painting. Extreme emotion, simplicity and controlled chaos is a common thread that can be found throughout Lloyd’s works. A self- proclaimed perfectionist, Lloyd says that being self-taught has allowed for his uninhibited and pure style of painting. Lloyd leaves his heart and soul on every painting. This relatively reserved painter enjoys speaking with people about his art but would rather allow the paintings to speak for themselves, reveling feelings and emotions that he says he could never put into words.

Signed lower left: "Botkin".
Henry Botkin (1896-1983) was a mid-century American modernist equally known as a painter, a collage artist, and for his work as a proponent of abstract art. Botkin’s oeuvre can be defined by three distinct styles—School of Paris Modernism, Cubism, and Abstract Expressionism.
While each of the three styles is considered distinct, music can be seen as the common thread throughout his artistic output. In the 1930s, the impact of Gershwin’s opera “Porgy and Bess” is readily apparent in works such as Woman in Boat...
