“Emerging, Into The Pink" is painted using adventurous processes of pouring paint, using countless diaphanous spills of paint and water, pulling imagery with and from the brushwork. The work seems akin to diverse foundational practices seen in 17th century Japanese screen painting, Chinese ink calligraphy or Modernist abstract expressionism and countless other artistic processes. The artist paints these works mostly flat, on a tabletop, and he hovers over them, initially not knowing top or bottom, no preliminary drawings, subjects, intent - Although, Boyers suggests "- that's not wholly true - sometimes I think about a movement, an inner movement, outer movement and color, like a dancer preparing to twirl, or to leap, I move as my mind moves."
Lowell Boyers (b. 1966) is an established artist and a graduate of the MFA program at Yale University and the Rhode Island School of Design (BFA). He has been living and working in New York City for over 30 years.
