"These paintings all come from my deep curiosity into the use of materials. The influence for each painting is not fixed: An old rag, shingles, or the idea of an excavation can help me start a painting. As I work or after completing a painting, something new will always emerge and that occurrence cannot be ignored: It compels me to create a new painting by exploring the previous one. Some paintings will convey both the content and material exploration, while others emanate from the whole process and the materials used. My paintings vary in style, but what resonates amongst all the pieces is the underlying investigation into ways that materials can be used to spark interest or insight into new visual experiences."
