A longtime friend of the gallery whose work is often infused with an intimate and nostalgic sensibility, Paper's custom wall paintings are thoughtfully conceived and created in close collaboration with each client for their dedicated space. Each wall painting is a natural extension of the artist's practice which employs intricate, original patterns and share an affinity with tapestry in richness, scale and connection to a personal story. We look forward to connecting Marcie with new collectors, interior designers, art and design lovers and anyone else who seeks to elevate their space through her keen eye and craftsmanship. Each painting's scale, style and pricing is determined in collaboration with each client and is offered here on 1st Dibs in 4 tiers to accommodate different budgets: $4200, $7000, $10,000 and $15,000. Marcie Paper Bespoke Wall Paintings Statement Merging her experience as an abstract painter with a love of pattern and interior spaces, Marcie Paper creates hand painted bespoke wall paintings for homes as well as office and commercial spaces. With a growing collection of patterns taken directly from her abstract paintings, Marcie works closely with each client to arrive at a final design and color palette for their unique interior. Once a design has been finalized, she uses a combination of methods including projection, handmade stencils, and her eye to draw with graphite directly onto the wall. She then uses small brushes to paint the pattern directly onto the wall by hand. Depending on the pattern, she may also use light sanding to create an overall texture. The final result is both meticulous pattern and hand painted mural. As a part of her larger studio practice, Marcie has been painting wall paintings throughout New York City and the Hudson Valley since 2012 and is open to working in other suitable locations. Marcie Paper Artist Statement Twenty years ago my family learned that my father had developed a rare disorder that left him without the ability to retain short-term memories. My interest in memory stems from the questions that have persisted since. When do our daily experiences transform into our recollections of the past? How much of our long-term memory is a sum of small insignificant events? How do short and long term memory influence each other? What is the consequence of memory loss on our concept of ourselves and our placement within the world. What began as an investigation into the properties of short-term memory has evolved into one including visual sense-memory. I believe that sense-memories and nostalgic responses, more closely related to short-term memory as opposed to long-term memory, can generate and offer a different view of our personal histories. While less reliable, less responsible, more fleeting and more subjective, they are also more precious. I collect, abstract, and layer the details of my daily. Attempting to preserve and learn from, my short-term memories, I operate with the assertion that memories find their importance in the whole rather than in the sum of their parts. By embedding paintings with specific details that may have been lost otherwise, I am working to supplant more of these moments in hopes of concocting future sense memory experiences.
