oil, graphite on paper, 32"x42", signed on reverse- framed in natural wood shadowbox frame, This abstract painting is a large scale work in neutral blues, greys and browns. A light creamy white linework gives definition to the blocks of color in this engaging composition. Balanced with washes of light brushwork, there is a central depth in the solid blue-grey and umber forms and lines in the painting. As in his abstract works from this period the aritst notes this painting as: Scalamandre_08.09.14 Mark Masyga received his MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and currently lives and works in New York. The recipient of the Edward F. Albee award, Masyga has participated in residencies in Montauk, New York, Skowhegan, Maine, and was featured in the PS 1 Studio Visit Program. Mark Masyga has exhibited extensively in New York and Nationally, his work was featured in Bohemian National Hall - home to Czech Center, in Prague in the Fall of 2014.
