About the Item

Martyn Jones (Welsh, b 1955) Diptychs ("Overland Series") Oil on canvas Provenance: Robert Steele Gallery NY (Robert Steele operated Anima Gallery in Adelaide, Australia as well as his gallery in New York. He represented and exhibited many contemporary American and international artists and was one of the most prominent dealers in Aboriginal art.). The business card is not included. It was tucked into the back of one of the pairs. I am just including the photo for provenance. Martyn Jones (born 1955) is a British contemporary artist and painter who works from his studio in Cardiff, Wales. Jones, who was born in Aberaman, near Aberdare in Rhondda Cynon Taf, graduated with an M.A. in Fine Art from Chelsea School of Art, London and was awarded Junior Fellowship at Bath Academy of Art. Among his tutors were the British artists Adrian Heath (close friend of Terry Frost). He also studied with Peter Kinney. Martyn Jones' paintings evoke the spirit of classic late English Modernism - in particular the St Ives School - through their jewel-like flat areas of intense colour. Martyn's abstract paintings are often inspired by the natural world and sometimes are more about that crossover point from figuration to abstraction. Jones’ works of art have been compared with the work of Spanish Catalan Surrealist artist Joan Miro. His work is represented in the UK by the Ffin-y-Parc Gallery and Kooywood Gallery, Wales and the No. 9 Gallery in Birmingham, and in USA by Artefact Pardo Gallery, Miami and the Robert Steele Gallery, New York. “I have always considered my work as belonging to a European tradition in painting. Some of my deepest influences lie with the work of Joan Miro, Marc Chagall, Wassily Kandinsky, Braque’s ‘Atelier Series’ and my mentor and tutor Patrick Heron. Primarily my work is about promoting the use of light and colour. I am interested in my work conveying a sense of immediacy and simplicity, with each painting employing a personal alphabet of shapes and symbols, enabling me to develop my own visual language. The crossover between figuration and abstraction and the connection with the world at large, has also been an important focus in my work. I like to vary the physicality of the surface in employing various painting techniques, such as blending, stippling, gestural areas of colour and use of line, in an attempt to create a ‘jewel like’ appearance. In inventing my own imagery, I would like to transform people’s perception and vision of the natural world through my paintings”. Martyn Jones - August 2019. During 2008 Jones staged his first major international solo exhibition "Overland" at the Robert Steele Gallery, Chelsea, Manhattan, comprising over forty works. The Robert Steele Gallery has represented Jones' work, since 2004, in a variety of international and themed group exhibitions. In March 2010 Jones exhibited his second solo-show at the Robert Steele Gallery, During 2012 Jones exhibited in three solo-shows, at Artefact Pardo Gallery in Palm Beach County, Florida, at the Oriel Ynys Mon Gallery in Anglesey and at the Kooywood Gallery in Cardiff. Jones' work has been exhibited widely in UK, Europe and USA, including at the National Museums and Galleries of Wales, at the Wales International Centre and the Chrysler Building in New York City. His signed, unique, work is represented in numerous public and private collections in Europe and the US He is represented by the Kooywood Gallery, Cardiff and by the Robert Steele Gallery, New York City. • Mixed Media Large Pop Art Painting Drawing Brian Kenny NYC Street Art 2015
    Located in Surfside, FL
Brian Kenny, (German-American, 1982-) MIxed Media Painting with Drawing, Oil or Acrylic on Canvas. Hand signed On Verso and Dated 2015, NYC Dimensions: Sight- 30" x 24", Frame- 36" x 30" Brian Kenny (born 1982, Heidelberg, Germany) is a NYC-based American multidisciplinary artist exhibited in galleries, museums, theaters and alternative venues in the US, Canada, Russia, Israel and across Europe. In 2004 Brian began an ongoing collaboration with artist Slava Mogutin as SUPERM, and in 2016 with writer Rich Juzwiak as BOYFRIEND HOUSE. Using an array of mediums including drawing, painting, sculpture, textile, video and performance, Brian’s artwork is bright and vividly expressionistic; often autobiographical and reflective of his current states of mind which include themes of his queer identity, shifting societal perceptions about gender, sexuality and politics, urban living and free-associative wanderings of thought and creative experimentation. New York-based artist Brian Kenny’s work is a visually striking exploration of gender, sexuality, and politics in contemporary North America. Known for his experimental and expressionistic practice, Brian mixes mediums such as painting, illustration, collage, sculpture, and textiles – oftentimes all at once. Brian’s foundation in drawing is evident across his portfolio, with nearly every piece incorporating some signature scribblings from the artist. He has experimented with drawing, collage, photography, performance and, more recently, painting. “All the other mediums I’m exploring like, painting, textile art, and animation all branch out from drawing,” he explains. This focus is what makes Brian’s vast collection of work all feel so cohesive. "Both of my parents were in the US military and we moved around a lot in the US. But most of the places I lived were rural, far from big cities and art museums, so I had no idea who Andy Warhol, Mark Rothko, Chuck Close, David Hockney or Damien Hirst were. The few small art museums I visited as a child were full of old-school oil paintings; all life-like portraits, rural landscapes and historical recreations. It wasn’t until I met Slava Mogutin and moved to New York that I began to meet artists, see exhibitions at art galleries of living artists near my age, and tour lot of contemporary art museums like MoMA and begin learning about contemporary art history". Brian says. “I’m definitely not a minimalist and lean toward more narrative and figurative artwork than abstraction or decoration”. Minimalist, he is not: Brian’s work pops with vibrant colours, characters and shapes, evoking a Warholian play on pop art culture. Kenny’s signature line drawing style is reminiscent of Keith Haring and LA Ortiz and evokes comparisons to early Jean Michel Basquiat. Brian's commercial and fashion work includes art and design commissions and collaborations with Onitsuka Tiger (Japan...

From a San Francisco Bay Area collection. 1948 born in Kindberg, Styria, Austria, studied economics in Vienna, 1985-91 Teaches at University of Applied Arts Vienna As a photographer, Rudi Molacek learnt not only the principles of composition but also above all the photographs dependence on technology and the associated aesthetics of serial generation. When changing from photograph to painting, he sought a classic genre of painting, namely depiction of flowers with the rose as a preferred motif. This subject later also became the focus of his sculptural approach, as coloured aluminium sculpture, conceived for outdoor nature. He started to interpret painting and the panel painting as technical dispositives and experimented with various media, be they oil paintings, photo strips...

In a captivating new collection, Alex Guofeng Cao dazzles audiences with his unique twist on instantly recognizable images. Inspired by history and pop culture, Cao manipulates one iconic image to create another in his extraordinary large-scale works. From a distance, the pieces appear to be a singular image but as the viewer approaches closer, you find each work is a masterfully crafted compilation of minute detailed images layered next to one another, creating a mesmerizing and hypnotic optical illusion. Cao meticulously places each smaller image to form a dynamic gradient from dark to light which tricks the eye into seeing one image. This expertise in contrast is exemplified in all of his works, from striking black and white pieces to stunning explorations in high-definition color. He cleverly mirrors this visual contrast in his subject matter by subverting the main image and creating a dialogue between the macrocosm and microcosm. Take the piece, Ali vs Armstrong; here we see the iconic image of Muhammed Ali’s victory composed of thousands of tiny portraits...
