A very atmospheric abstract coastal scape painting, executed in oil onto board by contemporary British artist Ian Mood.
Inspired by coastlines, this expansive abstract painting captures the essence of sea, sky and rain, and has a meditative quality. There is a sense of being awash – awash by colour, by nature, by the air, and by the sea. As our eyes move across the painting, the movement of the brushstrokes and the style of the drips and colour wash absorb our attention and settle our mind.
This oil on board is housed in a complementary light blue frame with an inner white window that pairs wonderfully with the painting. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.
About the artist:
Ian Mood is a contemporary artist with an international reputation, having shown work with Saatchi London, Brooklyn Art Library, Battersea Art Fair & Manchester Art Fair – as well as being represented by numerous established galleries in the UK and US. He recently held his first solo show in New York.
In 2019, he collaborated as artist in residence with The National Theatre (Madness of George III with Mark Gatiss) and The Royal Exchange Manchester (Mother Courage with Julie Hesmondhalgh).

Inspired by whimsey and purity of the feminine form, Cindy Shaoul is known for her impressionistic and abstract style. She is best recognized for her series ‘Brides’, ‘Dripping Dots’ and ‘Hearts’, as well as her ‘Plein-Air’ street scenes of quintessential New York locations. Shaoul’s works can be found in hundreds of private and corporate collections worldwide.
Since her first group show at Parsons School of Design in 2009, her work has been showcased internationally – from Italy to South Korea – and has been shown at various art fairs nationwide including Miami, Palm Beach, Dallas, and New York. Shaoul has had numerous solo exhibitions and has garnered the attention of notable celebrities such as Emma Roberts, Lily Collins, Ashley Park, Catherine Deneuve and John Malkovich.
Her love of painting began at the age of 18 when she was on Thanksgiving break from college. She painted a 9-foot colorful, abstract mural in her mother’s art studio and has been painting ever since. Shaoul later traveled to Israel and Hungary, and studied abroad for 2 years at the Budai Art Institute, which created lifelong experiences that still influence her art today.

Richard Cook is a leading British painter living and working in Newlyn, Cornwall. Cook has been exhibiting for over 25 years and has received countless awards including from the British Council, the Arts Council and The Elephant Trust Award (twice). In 2001 he was given a solo show at Tate St Ives with a related publication, and a major painting was acquired for the collection in 2006. Further works are held in the British Museum collection. Richard Cook’s work has been in countless exhibitions across the world and today sits in permanent collections at The Tate, London, The Arts Council, London, The British Museum, Manchester City Art Gallery and with Deutsche Bank, London. Richard Cook’s paintings are a combination of the constant and the fleeting. His landscapes show places that are always there, but the moment he visits them to make his preparatory drawings are not. Each time, the people will be different and the weather conditions will have altered, often radically so. The trees, buildings and other topographical features provide the framework for the true subject of the painting; the artists’ own place in that landscape and his personal response to the ever-changing light. For Richard Cook, the act of painting is an attempt to pin down a memory of a precise moment and to render the impermanent permanent. Richard Cook is a contemporary of Richard Long, who was in the year before him at St Martins, both artists transmute – in very different ways – their experiences of nature into their art. Cook has a real appreciation and understanding of the English landscape tradition. Since his successful exhibition at Tate St Ives, Cook has worked intensely for years at achieving a mature frequency of style with a vocabulary that is recognizably his. For Cook colours are strongly associated with the emotions and in a sense the emotions take on a physical form in his paintings. The subtlety of tone and hue expressed in these works is noticeably reticent and tone is deployed with rigorous efficiency throughout. Cook is attracted to bleak, rough, elementals aspects. GREGG ROBINSON
The universe of visual art encompasses a huge spectrum of motivation and means of expression. Examples range from the most syrupy sentimentality to extremes of moral and intellectual confrontation. For me, the creative process is, on the simplest level, an aesthetic puzzle. Elements of the puzzle include contrast, color, visual texture, graphic pattern, and in some recent work, a simple cryptic symbolism.
I have never been particularly interested in lyric or pictorial content, and though some of my work does contain undeniable spatial illusion, even that tends to be a by-product rather than a goal of the primary pursuit: the balance of light and dark, pure color and organic neutrals, energy and calm, strong pattern and subtle field. Having grown up in an environment of contemporary architecture, I have always valued the classic modern synthesis of form and function exemplified by the Bauhaus movement of the early 20th century. Hence, the simplest solutions are often the most satisfying. Obviously, the modernist ideal of efficiency in form and function requires that method of execution be as well adapted to the aesthetic goal as the visual language itself.
The media before you is the result of many years of experimentation that came to its current form in early 1992. I work with dry pigment over a plaster surface. My tools are broad knives, sponges, rags and masking. The finish is a high gloss alkyd resin. His prints have been published by GalleryOnline, publishers of Per Arnoldi, Ricardo benaim, Pierre Marie Brisson, Simon Bull, Fanch Ledan, Claude Gaveau and Laurent Schkolnyk and more.

The universe of visual art encompasses a huge spectrum of motivation and means of expression. Examples range from the most syrupy sentimentality to extremes of moral and intellectual confrontation. For me, the creative process is, on the simplest level, an aesthetic puzzle. Elements of the puzzle include contrast, color, visual texture, graphic pattern, and in some recent work, a simple cryptic symbolism.
I have never been particularly interested in lyric or pictorial content, and though some of my work does contain undeniable spatial illusion, even that tends to be a by-product rather than a goal of the primary pursuit: the balance of light and dark, pure color and organic neutrals, energy and calm, strong pattern and subtle field. Having grown up in an environment of contemporary architecture, I have always valued the classic modern synthesis of form and function exemplified by the Bauhaus movement of the early 20th century. Hence, the simplest solutions are often the most satisfying. Obviously, the modernist ideal of efficiency in form and function requires that method of execution be as well adapted to the aesthetic goal as the visual language itself.
The media before you is the result of many years of experimentation that came to its current form in early 1992. I work with dry pigment over a plaster surface. My tools are broad knives, sponges, rags and masking. The finish is a high gloss alkyd resin. His prints have been published by GalleryOnline, publishers of Per Arnoldi, Ricardo benaim, Pierre Marie Brisson, Simon Bull, Fanch Ledan, Claude Gaveau and Laurent Schkolnyk and more.

Will Cotton (born 1965 in Melrose, Massachusetts, U.S.A.) is an American painter whose work primarily features landscapes composed of sweets, often inhabited by human subjects. Will Cotton lives and works in New York City.
Cotton’s works from the 1990s depicted pop icons sourced from contemporary advertisements such as the Nestlé Nesquik bunny. Cotton described his early works in a 2008 interview, saying “My initial impulse to make these paintings really came out of an awareness of the commercial consumer landscape that we live in. Every day we’re bombarded with hundreds, if not thousands of messages designed specifically to incite desire within us.”
In 1996, Cotton began to develop an iconography in which the landscape itself became an object of desire. The paintings often feature scenery made up entirely of pastries, candy and melting ice cream.
