His early education at L'École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs introduced him to the artistic principles of André Lhote and Georges Rouault. However, his artistic journey was briefly interrupted when he served in World War II, acting as a liaison between the French Army and the U.S. Office of Strategic Services. After the war, Levier’s career flourished on both sides of the Atlantic. His first U.S. exhibition was in Los Angeles in 1950, leading to a string of successful solo shows, including those at the prestigious Galerie du Colisée in Paris and the Lilienfeld Gallery in New York. Levier’s works gained a cult following among Hollywood elites, with collectors including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Jackie Kennedy, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, Prince and Princess Pontiatowski, and Peter Lawford. Levier’s style is deeply rooted in Cubism, a movement pioneered by Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973) and Georges Braque (French, 1882-1963). He adopted bold black outlines and progressive layers of blues, greens, and reds, creating compositions that resonate with both French modernism and mid-century aesthetics. His work remains in major museum collections worldwide, including the National Museum of Modern Art (Paris), the Menton Museum of Art, the Atlanta Museum, the Seattle Museum, and the San Diego Museum. Levier passed away in 2003, leaving behind a legacy of timeless works that continue to captivate art collectors around the world.
