Maura Segal
My inspiration is drawn from modern architecture and minimalism. In my work, I juxtapose layers of paper with acrylic paint and a layer of thinly hand-cut paper strips insinuating the volume of three-dimensional sculptures. I enjoy the contrast between negative and positive spaces, the counterpoint between lines and shapes and the coexistence and of two and three dimensional planes.

Tango Pants #7 by Mel Rea, Acrylic and Pastel on Torn Canvas
By Mel Rea
Located in Atlanta, GA
Mel began her artistic career as a devoted clay sculptor. However, as time passed, she began to long for a change. Several years back she explored new options while exhausting more mediums than she can recall. It was during this period that she discovered a small batch of beeswax left behind from the last of her grandfather's beehives. Mel's grandfather, Sam Sekerak, spent his childhood in Russia where he was inspired to build an apiary farm. His dream came true as an adult in the States where he built and farmed his own set of beehives. As a young girl, Mel felt such a sense of peace walking amongst her grandfather's hives. She developed a very deep connection, respect, and appreciation for Mother Nature. Like many artists, she is a constant source of inspiration. This connection along with that old batch of beeswax is what led my transition away from clay and into encaustic painting (painting with molten beeswax). She is grateful for the intense labors of the beautiful honeybee, and consider beeswax a unique gift to be treasured.
As a strange twist of fate, her name is translated in the Greek word for "honeybee". She loves traditional Japanese pottery and contemporary Japanese painting. The soft satin finish of the beeswax along with the ability to incise elegant clean lines, was just what she'd longed to achieve. While many Japanese works of art...

PVB-7600 - Contemporary Abstract Collage Painting, purple, brown, blue
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
PVB-7600 is part of Eric Mack's ongoing body of work utilizing multi-media, complex compositions, and a grid centered around urban design. Using a grid to create the framework of the painting, Mack has utilized paper adhered by a matte medium to create graphic imagery of text and color blocks on top of a canvas dyed in ink. This painting is gallery wrapped with canvas on top of stretcher bars. Mack's paintings have been described as "intellect on top of emotion".
Eric Mack (b.1976, Charleston) creates mathematically based renderings with a distinct post-modern twist. Works are informed with super imposed grids, patterns, and portals. Layered surfaces are created with paint, found objects, natural fibers, and synthetic substrates that explore the systems of our visual world.

OYV-19 - Contemporary Abstract Collage Painting- Yellow, measuring tape
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
OYV-19 is part of Eric Mack's ongoing body of work utilizing multi-media, complex compositions, and a grid centered around urban design. Using a grid to create the framework of the painting, Mack has re-purposed an old Lenny Kravitz album cover as the structure of the piece. On the edges of the piece you can see a complex edge consisting of a faux leather album cover, nylon mesh, and torn paper. As imagery, Mack has chosen musical notes, tape measure, and other music composition elements through Zerox copy adhered by matte medium to the surface. Mack then creates his own color to further tweak and personalize the piece.
