About the Item

Vestiges spectrales IV continues Melisa Taylor Metzger’s exploration of oceanic memory and material transformation through mixed media and impasto. This smaller-scale work, rich in tactile depth, merges painting and low-relief sculpture into a sedimentary tableau where natural fragments—shells, sand, and organic residues—emerge from the painted surface like archaeological findings revealed by the tide. Rendered in spectral greens, pearlescent lilacs, and mineral blacks, the composition oscillates between erosion and renewal, presence and disappearance. The interplay of iridescent pigments and embedded textures evokes the slow choreography of marine forces shaping coastal terrains. In Vestiges spectrales IV, traces of life and decay intertwine, transforming the canvas into both relic and living organism. Its sculptural surface protruding beyond the frame perimeter blurs boundaries between art and environment, gesture and geology—inviting viewers into a contemplative space where the ephemeral becomes enduring, and matter remembers its origins. Ready-to-hang, signed at the back with clean light-blue colored painted edges.
