Michele Circiello was born in Rocchetta Sant'Antonio (FG) on November 23, 1944. He studied at the Art Institute of Foggia and the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. A student of the maestro Cantatore, he debuted in the 1970s with traditional figurative painting, depicting scenes of everyday life and the problems of his homeland. His artistic breakthrough came when he focused on the severe economic and social crisis affecting the villages of Daunia (his canvases are true documents of social hardship, a denunciation of the environmental reality), a crisis that forced men and women to resign themselves from fruitless work in the fields.
