About the Item

Artist Commentary: A bright, happy piece, reminiscent of sunlight glancing off water. Keywords: abstract, color, abstract, painting, marble, xxxxl Artist Biography: Created during her daily art and meditation practice, Michelle’s abstract paintings are spontaneous in nature, reflecting her inner world found during the stillness of the pre-dawn morning. Inspired by color, emotion, and daily events, she approaches the canvas not knowing what the final outcome will be. She paints from the heart. Her abstract, Fusion expressionism allows you, the viewer, to see what speaks to you in each piece. Painting is Michelle’s ultimate meditation and mode of expression. She paints with colors that call to her in the moment. Her process requires many layers and pours of paint and is not premeditated, allowing for a spontaneous creation that is highly unpredictable. The interaction between the paints and surface creates a dynamic movement of color. The result is a painting that viewers interact with, finding the message that calls to them. Michelle’s works have found homes coast-to-coast

  • Variations on Natural Occurrences 2
    By Farida Hughes
    Located in Boston, MA
Artist Commentary: This painting is from my "Common Threads" series comprised of abstract paintings that metaphorically allude to the links, or threads, tying people, groups, and communities together across differences. We often find ourselves faced with addressing the differences between people, via identity, politics, economic stature, family origin, and more. Real entwined thread, or pulled lengths of wool, in the Common Threads paintings are a metaphor for commonly shared experiences bridging these different identity issues. Shared experiences bind people and their histories together in intimately interesting ways. I am working to use these links and metaphoric threads as a means to find common ground and harmony. Keywords: abstract, pastel colors, linear, lines, thread, calm, meditative, circles, pink, green, blue, ivory, antique white Details about the piece: - This is a hand painted, original painting - Created in Baltimore, Maryland, USA - Professional grade oil paints and ArtResin on wood panel - Other materials include professional grade watercolor, oil pastel, and thread - Wood Panel with Birchwood face and 1.5" Poplar wood cradle - Ready to hang with wires and D ring - Signed on the back - Certificate of authenticity and care sheet included with original Artist Biography: Farida Hughes’ lively and intriguing abstract paintings take their inspiration from the gathering and dispersing of crowds, group relationships, and shared histories and stories of people. She developed her abstract mixed media style, and methods of mixing oil paint with resin, after many years of painting with oil paint and experimenting with oil painting mediums. Hughes studied Studio Art and English at Fordham University in New York and received an MFA in Painting from the University of Chicago. Her work is exhibited widely in galleries and art centers and collected nationally. She is currently represented by Walker Fine Art...

  • Nocturnal Parts - abstract geometric contemporary modern painting relief
    Located in Doetinchem, NL
Nocturnal Parts is a unique one-of-a-kind contemporary modern painting relief by Dutch artist Sander Martijn Jonker. It is a relief consisting of two open spherical parts with an intriguing matte black finish, perhaps a bit mysterious but very beautifully made. It can be hanged in two different ways, with the opening between the two spherical elements either facing away or facing the observer. Depending where the light comes from one might decide for the one or the other hanging method. Sander Martijn Jonker (1977, Netherlands) graduated from the St. Joost School of Art & Design in Den Bosch, The Netherlands. He primarily makes three-dimensional reliefs that play with the tension between abstraction and representation, surface and space. Light, shadow and their elusive ever-changing properties play an important role. Although the resulting works are abstract, he uses everyday reality as a starting and/or reference point. His work is created through forms of manipulation, distortion, repetition and simplification. Some works arise from the repetition of a simple movement or form, others are made by exploring how far he can go with the deformation and manipulation of the material, after which he captures and preserves the shape. He experiences daily life as uncontrollable and at times confusing. In order to cope with that, he is always looking for patterns and has gradually developed various rituals and ways of control, hoping they can offer him certainty and reassurance. His work and person are inextricably connected. He makes the things he makes because he doesn’t have a choice. He is trying to get a grip...
