About the Item

Umbra! – Textured Abstract Earth Tone Painting by Michelle Thomas (24” x 48" x 2.5”). “Umbra!” is a captivating contemporary abstract painting that explores the elemental dialogue between the Earth and Moon, rendered through richly textured surfaces and a grounded, neutral color palette. Created by contemporary artist Michelle Thomas, this original work radiates quiet power and natural beauty, making it a perfect statement piece for modern interiors. This one-of-a-kind painting features a bold vertical format (24” W x 48” H x 2.5” D) and an extra-deep gallery wrap, adding sculptural dimension and a striking side profile. On the left, the canvas is dominated by tactile layers of charcoal black and earthy brown, evoking fertile soil, rock formations, and elemental depth. These heavier strokes organically blend into smoother transitions of warm beige and soft white, capturing the luminous presence of the moon—offering contrast, balance, and a sense of meditative harmony. Why “Umbra!” Is a Collectible Work: Neutral Palette, Timeless Impact: Designed to complement minimalist, organic, and earth-toned interiors. Textural Complexity: Created using acrylic and mixed media, the surface is deeply dimensional and invites tactile curiosity. Extra-Deep Canvas (2.5”): Offers a bold, architectural presence on the wall. Evocative Concept: A meditation on contrast—light vs. shadow, groundedness vs. transcendence, Earth vs. Moon. Whether displayed in a modern entryway, over a fireplace, or as part of a gallery wall, “Umbra!” invites reflection while adding a warm, elemental sophistication to the space. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and a strong following in the design and art world, her paintings are celebrated for their balance of raw materiality and ethereal presence. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, Michelle’s pieces explore the intersection of nature, identity, and transformation. Her signature technique of layering texture with intentional color fields creates immersive, meditative canvases that feel both grounded and transcendent. She is an emerging voice in modern abstract art and a top choice for collectors, designers, and curated interiors.

Dreamer (Contemporary, Abstract Painting in Earth Toned Brown Palette)
By Christopher Engel
Located in Hudson, NY
Abstract painting on curved canvas in warm, orange and yellow palette oil on canvas on unique artist made stretcher 36 x 74 inches This curved canvas was painted by abstract artist Christopher Engel in 2006. The abstract expressionist style painting contains dramatic splashes of canary and golden yellows, crimson, and coral against a dark umber background. A sturdy wire spanning the back of the painting provides for instant, professional-quality hanging. Christopher Engel is represented by Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY. Artist Statement: The Fan Shaped Paintings evolved from the process of mixing paint in paper coffee cups. As I noticed the intriguing arrangement and patterns of color and shapes in the mixing cups I began to set the cups aside to save those images. Years later, I began unfolding the stacks of cups I had saved to see the images and patterns of color. I was also attracted to the fan-like shape of the opened cups. The spontaneous nature of the color and shapes on my palette of “coffee cups” became the genesis of the creation of the Fan Paintings.
