About the Item
A great hard edge abstract painting, possibly by Michiel Gloeckner.
This work was purchased from Trinity Auctions. Trinity Auctions have handled many works by the artist, and some are unsigned, like this work.
Gloeckner, a painter of colorful abstractions, was born in Germany in 1915. The son of a prominent art collector, he was educated at the University of Dresden, where he studied mathematics and art history. Gloeckner attended classes at the Royal Academy of Dresden with Otto Dix.
Gloeckner was deeply influenced by Paul Klee (1879-1940).
In the wake of World War II, Gloeckner moved to New York City, and exhibited his works in galleries in Manhattan, including Gallery Seventy-Five, the Jacques Seligman Galleries, World House Galleries and the Gallery of Contemporary Masters.
This work is a great patch-work abstraction, with a pleasing use of colors.
