About the Item
"Ocean" by Nan Van Ryzin is a 24" x 20" oil on canvas that delves into the depths of abstract expressionism with its rich, aquatic palette. Majestic blues dominate the canvas, ranging from the deep indigo of the ocean's abyss to the bright cobalt of sunlit waves. Accents of orange and yellow break the surface like the final glimmers of a sunset reflected on water, while dark, bold strokes hint at the mysteries lurking below. The painting's orientation, versatile in nature, allows the viewer to drift horizontally across the ocean's expanse or dive vertically into its layers. "Nan's works first astound you by their size and lushness of color and then grab you for their quality. I stood in front of her canvases for several minutes and then walked away. But I keep coming back to them. Her thick and lush oil paints are oozing and flowing on the canvas and you can't but recall a torrent of water coming out of a hose, finding its own tunnels on the ground.
Nan is a spontaneous artist, not an impulsive one. Her canvases are thought out methodically and executed with tremendous force. The artist's works are in many renounced collections in the U.S."
