About the Item
Composition XXI - A abstarct square painting in light, grey, peach and red burgundy color. The author used oil on canvas with sawdust mixed with alabaster and sand creating a special texture.
The Composition XXI is one the painting from the Topography series by Natalia Sitnikova.
The style of the author is an appeal to abstraction as an adequate language for expressing one’s own emotional experience. For example, Malevich has a remarkably accurate expression and explanation for this - “the mind of painting”.
As she said before: 'I love to work in series. It is an immersion in a long process. There is a continuation of the story and topics from work to work. Each canvas is a part of the whole and an independent organism. When they are together, this is like a huge installation. And there is movement in time and space - from and to, where everything is present, but, as a result, the cycle closes and a cinematic effect appears. In addition, each part of this installation in miniature contains the cyclical nature of the total length of the series'.
A series of topography - a look at the landscape through its structure. Moving from canvas to canvas series - like moving on a map, a journey. Approximation to parts, particles and removal at a considerable distance. Detail tactile, tangible and recognizable at the level of texture, memory of the skin. I use sand, sawdust, alabaster - those materials that are a "quote" from life. For me, the detail, the recognizable fragment is not in the naturalism of reproduction, but in the exact recognition of a particular fragment that is familiar to absolutely everyone who touched stone, sand, wood or earth. And the topography of the place itself may already be transformed, although sometimes I include specific geographic fragments. It is interesting for me to include and transform the concrete, existing, into the structure of the generated, composed space. This space is a sense of place, the birth of memories. The key to this birth is in a recognizable detail, the viewer can then either focus on the approximation, or look from a bird's eye view at a “familiar” or seemingly familiar place. Optics perception plays a huge role. And this range between the “naturalism” of the limit approximation, the introduction into the structure and the state of “flight over” is very important to me. This "gap" between, he is alive, he is like an organism. Accordingly, I also consider the landscape as a living, pulsating and breathing substance, in a relationship with which a person lives.
Natalia Sitnikova was born in Moscow in 1978. Natalia's parents are famous Russian artists of the 60s and 70s Alexander Sitnikov and Olga Bulgakova.
In 1989 she entered the Moscow Academic Art Lyceum and studied there until 1996, after which from 1996 to 2002 she studied at the Moscow State Art Institute. V.I. Surikov.
In 2002, Natalya graduated with her diploma, which was a real event - abstract works for an academic university were new, in the same year she joined the Moscow Union of Artists, and organized her first exhibition at the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. The awards were not long in coming, and already in 2003, Natalia Alexandrovna won the Triumph Youth Prize.

Untitled Pink And Grey 1 - Textural Abstract Minimalist Artwork on Canvas
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Painting is fearlessly following an instinct for Togolese artist Olympio. His work is honest and palpable—exposed, raw, and direct. It is an unfiltered manifestation of his soul. Bright, energetic marks encircle rough textures, balanced by peaceful compositions emanating from below the surface.
Olympio’s art transforms walls into landscapes of color and form, creating an engaging focal point that elevates any room's aesthetic to a new level. The heavily textured layers in Olympio’s work create a tangible sense of depth, drawing the eye and enriching the space with a bold yet nuanced presence.
This 48 inch high by 36 inch wide mixed-media painting is signed by Olympio on the back of the canvas. The many layers in his work further emphasize the texture and visceral nature of his canvases. The painting is wired and ready to hang. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable U.S. and global shipping are available. A Certificate of Authenticity issued by Artplex Gallery is included.
For the abstract artist Olympio, art is a dance of textures and colors, woven from an eclectic medley of canvas and textiles. Each stroke on his canvas is a nod to the classical ideals of modern abstraction, a harmonious blend of purpose and spontaneity. The linens and canvases he selects have borne witness to various conditions and interactions, embracing the imprints of their past experiences. Olympio meticulously stretches, glues, and layers these diverse fabrics together, infusing them with additional layers of acrylic paint, a fusion of careful craft and serendipitous revelation.
In Olympio's art, deliberate strokes mingle with accidental splashes, forming a mesmerizing canvas that speaks to the ethos of modernism's evolution. It's a reminder that the legends of yesteryears now manifest as a distinct style, a testament to their enduring influence. His mastery over the medium amplifies, imbuing each piece with a romantic essence carefully counterbalanced by his practiced modesty. The strokes, swirling and turbulent, are immersed in a rich, opulent application of paint, akin to an expansive honeysuckle-pink landscape or a brooding soot-gray abyss. Yet within this whirlwind of impressions, Olympio maintains a sense of purpose, an elusive process that surrenders control to the animated paint and sculptural fabrics.
Olympio possesses a rare duality, orchestrating the delicate balance between sensuality and subtlety within his creations. Navigating these opposing forces, he transcends distractions and attains the perfect pitch, crafting a visual symphony that resonates deeply.
Olympio was born into a large family of eight children in Lomé, Togo, West Africa. He began his creating art by using building scraps to make sculptures. By the time he was in high school, he started to experiment with mixed-media and collage. He later transitioned to acrylic and oil on canvas.
In 2001, Olympio left his home in Africa to live in Paris. Olympio moved to the United States in 2003 and has continued to paint. His work has been exhibited at Art Basel Miami, where in 2018 he was ranked one of the Top 10 Artists by Red Dot Miami. He was also recently interviewed for France 2, TV5Monde, and the BBC. His work has been exhibited and collected internationally.
