About the Item
This contemporary abstract expressionist piece with a touch of impressionism was created by French artist Natalya Mougenot and belongs to her evocative series dedicated to the beauty of nature.
Entitled Summer Meadow, this vibrant oil painting captures the radiant spirit of the season through sweeping gestures, bold textures, and a vivid palette. Infused with emotional depth and movement, the piece invites the viewer into an abstract vision of summer nature in bloom.
Mougenot’s art is guided by core values that shape her every brushstroke: expression, authenticity, honesty, and a deep connection to the raw, untamed energy of art brut. Her work emerges from a place of pure emotional resonance, unfiltered by convention or expectation. She paints not to replicate what is seen, but to express what is felt—translating inner states and natural rhythms into color, form, and gesture.
In Summer Meadow, these values are vividly alive. The work radiates with spontaneity and sincerity, capturing a moment of nature in full bloom—alive, imperfect, ever-changing. For Mougenot, painting is an act of truth-telling. Her intuitive process embraces the unknown, allowing the canvas to become a mirror of her inner world, shaped by instinct rather than intellect.
Nature serves as an endless well of inspiration, offering a sacred space for introspection and liberation. Through abstraction, she finds clarity. Through imperfection, she finds beauty. Her commitment to artistic honesty ensures that each work is not only a visual experience but also a deeply personal expression of being.
Created with oil paints on stretched cotton canvas, Summer Meadow is a unique, one-of-a-kind original, signed on the front and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. It is sold unframed but arrives ready to hang, carefully packed for safe delivery.
Please note: colors may vary slightly between screen and reality due to digital display differences. Interior images are for inspiration only.

Natalya is a contemporary artist from Lyon, France. She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes and low mountains. She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country. She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis when she was struggling with radical life changes. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now. Several years ago painting became more than a hobby. It became a way of expressing her emotions and visions, a successive reaction to events of either personal or general concern. Her artist statement: “ I paint as it’s a necessity for my soul to express itself. Being creative for me is overcoming the restrictions. My art is a piece of my soul. I hope my art inspires reflection, provides a release and forms connection at other people’s souls”. She has developed her own vision of art through practicing a lot. She makes use of varying degrees of figuration, abstraction and impressionism by adding a contemporary twist. Abstract art for her is an interesting challenge for understanding inner feelings, a self-expression based on an intuitive approach. In figurative art her main subject remains women. Her artworks representing women contain the raw emotions of women. She also communicates the importance and the power of strong female relationships: “Women are enriched when they bond with each other”. She works in series: among them are "Heart-mind connection" of abstract artworks, "Women", "Bond", "Florals", "Springtime"... She uses various mediums ( acrylic, oil, watercolor, oil pastels) to create her unique artworks either on canvas or on paper. But she mainly uses acrylic as she works very quickly and expressively by finishing her artwork in one sitting. If Natalya had to pick one quote about her art, she would say : " Art is the reflection of the soul". Natalya goes with her gut and intuition to choose the colors, the lines, the shapes and the texture. She hopes her artworks will give a home a unique personality by filling it with life and color. Her sources of inspirations are Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne, Henri Matisse, George-Daniel de Monfreid, Paul Gauguin. She also admires the artworks of Joan Mitchell and Banksy.

Landscape Abstraction - Mid-Century - Twenty Paintings in One
Located in Miami, FL
When it comes to abstract painting, the creation date is important. At the height of Abstraction Expressionism, overlooked Academic Artist John Atherton created a wonderfully complex painting that embodies many of the characteristics of what was going on in Mid-Century American Art. The work is simultaneously abstract as it is representational. Like a Bento Box, it's divided into sections by dividers. On close inspection, each section stands on it's own as a beautiful mini-painting yet coalesces as part of the whole. From a distance, it is eye-pleasing, but as the view gets closer and closer, new structures and details gloriously reveal themselves. This is an important painting and not unlike the work of Joaquín Torres-García. It was done in the last year of the artist's life. Signed lower right. Canvas is relined. Framed size: 30 x 41.25. The work is best viewed with top gallery lights to bring out color.
Color will look different under different lighting conditions. Atherton exhibited at the famous Julien Levy Gallery in New York and his fine art is mainly associated with Magic Realism. He participated in the seminal 1943 Museum of Modern Art exhibition, American Realists and Magic Realists. The Museum of Modern Art has 4 Atherton paintings in its collection. As an Illustrator, Atherton did covers for the Saturday Evening Post, Fortune and Holiday Magazine...
