Nicholas Evans
"The Way" (Black & White, Texture, Depth, Antique Linen, Neutral Beige, Nude)

2023

About the Item

The canvas comes to life with a captivating yet understated painting, heavy on texture, using antique linen, crafted with a unique blend of dye, pigment, and acrylic. The artist's subtle nuances create an enigmatic portrayal of the murky unknown on an ancient-feeling surface, with a secret asking to be excavated. The beige and neutral color palette of terracotta, blue, and green, adds depth, revealing glimpses of hidden details below the surface, yet shrouded in mystery. Adding to the intrigue, there is a concealed painting of a nude woman on the back, embodying a spirit of seduction, beckoning viewers to delve deeper into the artist's world. Also on the back, the artist's signature is accompanied by the year of completion - 2023. This piece invites viewers to embrace the allure of the unknown and nod to the mystery of one's path.

  • "Set Us In Stone I" (abstract, blue, Parisian, graphic, bust on natural canvas)
    By Nicholas Evans
    Located in Paris, IDF
SET US IN STONE I 2022 Paris, France Originally created as part of Nicholas' solo exhibition "This, and Thereafter (Plumes)," December 10, 2022 - January 7, 2023. The theme illustrated the enigmatic uncertainty around what might happen after life. A range of paintings were presented – vibrant and ethereal – touching on different aspects of this notion. Each painting had a different point of view, oftentimes focusing around the inevitability of what is to come, and if and how it influences the present. This particular piece centers around personal legacy, how you will be remembered, and how your life vanishes into an abstraction as time goes by. This notion is visualized with a bust set in stone. The technique Evans used was a mixing of water-based ink with a hint of blue, that he knew would react when overlaid with white acrylic, pulling out a lighter hue of the blue ink. The white silhouette of a portrait set in stone creates a ghostly continuation of the underlaid pattern. Option to create a pair alongside "Set Us In Stone II" (as pictured). Price and size are per painting. Evans Deventer...

  • "Lus Osculi" (Abstract Black & White, Graphic Painting, Roman-inspired, Neutral)
    By Nicholas Evans
    Located in Paris, IDF
Drawing inspiration from the ancient Roman term "Los Osculi," translating to "right to kiss," the artist delves into a compelling exploration of the past's intriguing customs. In ancient Rome, women were prohibited from drinking as it was believed to lead to adultery and even possess abortifacient properties. Consequently, the husband and male family members of an "honest" woman possessed the right to kiss her on the mouth to ensure her sobriety. The allure of fleeting kisses, whispers of scent, and the sensuality of suspicion captivated the artist's imagination. On an antique French canvas...

  • "Time, It Takes I" (abstract, black & white, blue green ink, orange, diptych)
    By Nicholas Evans
    Located in Paris, IDF
TIME, IT TAKES I 2022 Paris, France A graphic and bold abstract painting on linen, with dark blue green ink and white acrylic accents. A single, bold, orange line is situated on the left side of the painting, a commentary on markers of time as an ineffective unit of measurement. Time interpreted not as linear, but an experience outside of numbers and outside of logic. Option to create a pair alongside "Time, It Takes II" (as pictured). Price and size are per painting. Lean In 36" x 36" Abstract Figurative Painting Acrylic on Canvas Framed Signed "My figurative work started as a challenge to myself. Sometimes, when I’m stuck in a painting rut, I challenge myself to do the one thing I least could imagine myself doing, let alone well. So that is how the figures started. My process often starts with a simple line drawing, and then I add layer after layer, incorporating unusual color combinations of acrylic paint, spray paint, oil pastels and colored pencils. I often go back and forth between some type of drawing and painting. And, I like to explore using different media like stencils and collage as well." ~Allison Meyler...
