Ethereal and calming, Novi Lim's painting transports its audience to a land that is both dreamlike yet familiar. Lim Finds inspiration in the natural world, and seeks to capture their essence through an organic and sensory creative process. In the artist's own words: ""Often, imagining a mythical flower that blooms and lit up in the nighttime or seeing something as simple as the calming gradient of the colorful sky at sundown, or the surface of water that glimmers which makes me wonder about the mystery of the deepest oceans -- piqued my creative process and subliminal stimuli."" Guided by instinctive feeling, Lim lets the movements of her paintbrush flow as she experiments with atmospheric lighting, transparency, and color. The result is an ambiguous landscape that treads between the subconscious and waking world.

Artist Biography:
I found my most true and liberated self in exploring the beauty of ambiguity. I like to capture the essence and subtle elements of the natural world, water, air, particles, energy, space -- giving the viewers the freedom of interpretation or creating their own narrative if they choose to do so. For me, art is a therapeutic way to drift into an imaginary land where I can set expressions free and let go of my subconscious through tactile movements and the fascinating play of color, texture, and natural chemistry that happens between mediums. I enjoy the flow of motion that comes instinctually and the layering process that is delicate. It's important for me to retain a spontaneous quality. Sometimes, I want to evoke the noir mood of melancholy, strength, opulence, and nostalgia in my paintings. Often, imagining a mythical flower that blooms and lit up in the nighttime, or seeing something as simple as the calming gradient of the colorful sky at sundown, or the surface of water that glimmers which makes me wonder about the mystery of the deepest oceans -- piqued my creative process and subliminal stimuli. At the core, I am more interested in the sensorial and experiential aspects of feelings and processes. It is a collaborative event of constructing my vision and letting go of inhibition in the pursuit of balance and harmony. Adding my own markings or oriental elements is something that's embedded in my identity and muscle memory. Working with acrylics, immediacy is an important factor, I also enjoy line work and atmospheric use of light and dark.

Infinite Fractals
By Novi Lim
Located in Boston, MA
Artist commentary:
I like to transport my mind to a calming place, inspired by memories, and complex organic elements found in nature. Playing with colors and movement, creating new compositions -- my best work comes when there is freedom to create without any strict plan. With intuition and spontaneity taking over, the result is often a surprise. To me, everything flows, and there is always a sense of balance and harmony that can emerge out of disorder. I love the ambiguous and mysterious nature of abstraction. Through self-discovery and experimentation, I am allowing dynamic energy that manifests through the joy of creating. The result is loose interpretations of anything that exists between the mind and reality, therefore each painting is unique and sometimes inexplicable.

"Weeds" Colorful Abstract Expressionistic Mixed Media Painting on Canvas
By Paul Indrek Kostabi
Located in New York, NY
Paul Kostabi is known for his wildly fun, expressionistic, and colorful portraits. This painting is a perfect definition of his most popular works. Red, bright whites, greens, and blues disperse in a frenzy of splatters, fast brush strokes, and speckles ascending across the canvas. The exuberant, bright, and messy depictions of this piece hold much fascination in its execution. His layered approach to the paint is part of what makes his works so attractive and exciting; creating many dimensions and highlights resembling the shine and gleam of stars in the universe.
Art measures 24 x 18 in
Paul Kostabi (Paul Indrek Kostabi) was born in 1962 in Whittier, California. He is an American artist, musician, music producer, and audio engineer. He is the brother of artist Mark Kostabi. He became part of the CBGB Festival in 2014 exhibiting paintings alongside photographers Bob Gruen, Michael Lavine...
