About the Item
This striking painting, Ariwo Oja, forms part of my ongoing project Oju lari, but beneath the surface…, which explores layered realities of existence, healing, and human experience through vibrant abstraction and figuration.
The composition captures two contrasting figures: one upright and grounded, cloaked in deep blue with red-accented sneakers, while another tumbles mid-air in fragmented, colorful forms. Birds glide beneath them, and clouds drift across the sky, intensifying the feeling of movement, fall, and contemplation. The scene reflects the paradox of modern life; between stability and disorientation, silence and chaos, grounding and flight.
What makes it unique:
The duality of figures one suspended in composure, the other unraveling creates a powerful tension, inviting multiple interpretations.
Its use of bold color blocks and silhouette-like figures distinguishes it as both contemporary and timeless.
The painting carries emotional depth, resonating differently with each viewer depending on their own inner experiences.
Why it’s worth the price:
This is more than a visual artwork; it’s a philosophical piece that addresses the unseen battles of existence. Its scale, bold execution, and layered storytelling make it a collector’s piece of high artistic and cultural value. Being part of a cohesive and recognized series further enhances its collectability and long-term value.
Condition:
The work is in pristine condition. Painted on high-quality stretched canvas with professional-grade acrylics, the surface is stable, colors are vivid, and the painting is ready for display.
Background:
The title Ariwo Oja (translated loosely as the noise of the market) draws from Yoruba philosophy, reflecting the unavoidable noise, chaos, and distractions of life. Within this painting, that philosophy becomes a visual metaphor—the contrast between chaos and calm, flight and grounding, reveals the hidden truths beneath appearances.
