About the Item

Patrick Dintino paints vertical bands of glowing color in a horizontal or rectangular format that read as both a scientific representation of the spectrum and an emotional landscape of pure color. Painted with oil on canvas mounted on wood board, the softly undulating stripes of light and dark generate their own kind of perceptual space, one that incorporates the naturally horizontal field of human vision. The titles of Dintino’s works; Eventide, Mirage, Ecstasy, allude to the subtle way remembered color is translated into an abstract configuration. Born in San Francisco, California, Patrick Dintino grew up in Sunnyvale, in the south bay area. He went to college in San Diego earning a BA degree in Industrial Arts from San Diego State University. He moved back to the Bay Area and earned a Masters of Fine Art degree at the California College of Arts and Crafts (CCA) in San Francisco and Oakland in 2001. Dintino was invited as a guest artist to work with Sol LeWitt to create “Sol LeWitt: A Retrospective” at SFMOMA. Since this time he was a finalist for SFMOMA’s SECA emerging artist award, and a Pollock/Krasner Foundation Grant recipient. His work is in numerous prominent private and corporate collections in the US and abroad. He currently teaches painting at California College of the Arts (Oakland/San Francisco, CA). Ecstasy - bright color yellow and pink stripe abstract contemporary oil painting
Located in New York, NY
Dintino's abstract oil paintings have to do with the melding of title and piece. His paintings all illustrate his ideas and words through visuality and color. Creating large panoramic pieces makes his work atmospheric and immersive, allowing the viewer to literally feel the title of his painting. This is quite a synesthetic approach to making art and allows ideas and words to sing. Born in San Francisco, California in 1964, Patrick Dintino grew up in Sunnyvale, in the south bay area. He went to college in San Diego earning a BA degree in Industrial Arts from San Diego State University, and co-founded Artists in Motion...

Breathing Space for Agnes - large, bright, yellow, stripes, acrylic on canvas
By Milly Ristvedt
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Vertical stripes of buttercup yellow and cloud blue are each separated from the other by a mere whisper of white canvas. The verticals appear to breathe rhythmically against the picture plane in this homage to American painter Agnes Martin. They evoke Martin's delicate, meticulously penciled grid works and her pursuit of inner peace. Milly Ristvedt, MA, RCA, began her career in Toronto in 1964 after studies with Takao Tanabe at the Vancouver School of Art. At 24, her work was included in the Centennial Exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario...

Coast to Coast Seven - Golden Yellow Mustard Dark Violet Blue Gray Stripes, 2022
By Audrey Stone
Located in Kent, CT
Carefully ordered blocks of color in bright, gradient hues in bright shades of golden yellow and light gray surround a deep, dark violet center. Signed, dated and titled on the verso. Audrey Stone has spent her lifetime being fascinated with color and line. Her paintings are explorations of these two elements, appearing in thick blocks of color and subtle color gradients. The boundaries between broad and narrow bands of color generate optical vibrations, stimulating visual processes for a viewer as the colors transition and inform an emotional and physical response to the work. Stone’s paintings present a dynamic opposition within graphic blocks of color in a perfect ordered symmetry, a simultaneity of excitement and calm, movement and stillness. Audrey Stone’s work has been exhibited across the US as well as in Tokyo, Vienna, Prague and Bulgaria. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, W Magazine, Times Union and New York Artist Circle, to name a few. The work is in the collections of Ameritas Foundation in Bulgaria and Credit Suisse among others. Stone earned...
