About the Item
Cahill strives to extend the historical conversation with line and elevate the integral role it has played in art, design, and the sciences since its early appearance in rock and cave drawings. Her paintings are comprised of a single, continuous line that changes color and connects back to itself: thus, inviting the viewer to a participatory and contemplative experience through the act of visual tracking. These multi-hued line formations are rooted in catalysts from art historical reference, geometry, visual semantics, or personal experience. The linear formations change color hundreds of times via the seamless application of up to 100 closely mixed, luminous, gradients that are laid down one brushstroke at a time in her attempts to contemporize line.

Paula Cahill
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Paula Cahill relocated to the Northeast where she received merit and academic scholarships while pursuing an education in the arts. She holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and a BFA from Tyler School of Art and Architecture. She also studied at the Art Students League of New York and Parsons School of Design.
Cahill has served as an undergraduate critic and speaker at Temple University, and as a visiting artist at the Westtown School in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Her award-winning work has been exhibited extensively in solo and group shows throughout the Northeast and has garnered regional awards including "Best of Show" in the "Celebration of Life" exhibit at the Perelman Center, and honorable mentions at Goggleworks and the Abington Art Center. Cahill's paintings are held in private, public, and corporate collections including Temple University, Capital One, and PNC Bank Corporation.
