Piero Sadun
Abstract Composition - Tempera on Have paper by P. Sadun - 1953

1953

About the Item

Abstract Composition is a suggestive artwork realized by Piero Sadun (1919-1974) in 1953. Original Title: VII n.912. Tempera on heavy paper. Signed and dated by the artist on the lower right. Exhibited at Galleria Edieuropa, Rome 2000 in occasion of the exhibition: Piero Sadun. Dall'ESpressionismo all'Astrattismo. Very good conditions. Frame and passepartout included. This abstract artwork, characterized by geometrical lines and dark tones, is a splendid creation by one of the most important painters of the second post-war period. Piero Sadun (Siena, 1919 - Siena, 1974) was a hildhood friend of Mario Verdone and Cesare Brandi, and, with the artists Giovanni Stradone, Toti Scialoja and Arnoldo Ciarrocchi, took part of the "Four painters off the road", which marked a first break in the expressionist sense compared to the neocubist language, dominant in those years in Italy. Gradually, he moved away from figuration to make the abstractionist lexicon his own, focusing his research on large material paintings dominated by the increasingly exclusive and bursting emergence of colors. Active since young as an interior decorator, he signed the homes of important Italian songwriters, among others Domenico Modugno, Franco Migliacci and Nada. His works are now preserved in museums such as the Tate Gallery in London and the National Gallery in Rome.
