Experimentation with different materials, textures and techniques in each of his paintings has been a point of discovery and a major part of Raul de la Torre’s work. In his Fils I Colors series he attempts to find the third dimension through the use of different materials.
This vibrant, unframed original artwork on paper measures 30 inches in height and 22.5 inches in width. It bears the artist's signature on the front lower right corner and is also dated, signed, and titled on the back. To represent the firmness and strength of that past the cotton is mixed with the paint in the works to form a unity.
Embroidery provides another layer as it creates thick shadows with organic shapes. De la Torre makes horizontal cuts on the paper and covers these open areas using color matching cotton thread. When combined with light, these shapes create a more dynamic surface and offer different views of the work to various observers.
Raul de la Torre was born in Barcelona in 1964 and attended Massana Art School. About the Fils series, de la Torre remarks: “FILS I COLORS is an attempt to find life, movement and parts that are not static, that change in their interaction with the observer. The different combinations of colors represent different emotions and interpretations for each individual interacting with the works.”
Raul de la Torre's artworks can be found in the collections of The Four Seasons Abu Dhabi, the Tropicana Hotel and Casino Las Vegas, the Rothschild Family Collection, and varying Hilton properties. His works have been exhibited and collected worldwide.

Raul de la Torre
Raúl de la Torre is a modern abstract artist who weaves tapestries of color using paint rather than textiles. His vibrant abstract paintings feature bold lines that seem to jump off the canvas.
A native Barcelonian, de la Torre was born in 1964. He graduated from the University of Barcelona with a degree in marketing direction before deciding to pursue art at Escola Massana. He participated in his first group exhibitions in 2005 in Narbonne, France, and Kranenburg, Germany.
De la Torre has a unique painting style that allows the materials to become the stars of each piece. He begins by choosing a color palette that conveys certain moments, people or feelings. Using acrylic paints, he creates blocks of colors that intertwine in patterns on the canvas. Finally, he makes numerous horizontal cuts into the piece and weaves cotton thread into the area, giving it an additional dimension.
After moving to the United States, de la Torre held his first exhibition in the country at Assunta Fox Gallery in Santa Clara, California, in 2006. He has subsequently showcased his work across the United States, most frequently in California but also in New Mexico, Colorado, New York, Illinois and Maryland.
De la Torre is an in-demand artist whose commissioned work is in private collections and on public display around the world. His paintings are on view at the Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi, the Tropicana Las Vegas and Morgan Stanley in San Francisco and New York. His work is in the private collections of the Rothschild family, the Feller family and the Boston Private trust and bank.
De la Torre plays an active role in the California art community. He is a member of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Council and the Los Angeles Art Association.

OYV-19 is part of Eric Mack's ongoing body of work utilizing multi-media, complex compositions, and a grid centered around urban design. Using a grid to create the framework of the painting, Mack has re-purposed an old Lenny Kravitz album cover as the structure of the piece. On the edges of the piece you can see a complex edge consisting of a faux leather album cover, nylon mesh, and torn paper.
