About the Item

Rebecca Newport Summer no. 2 Contemporary Abstract Painting Acrylic and Oil Stick on canvas Canvas Size H 30cm x W 30cm x D 1.3cm Sold unframed. Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look. ‘Summer no. 2’ is an original abstract painting by Rebecca Newport. Rebecca has created this piece using layers of pastels, fluorescents and muted blues and greens. The abstract shapes give this piece a bright and striking look and with the mixed colour palette it would suit a number of different interior settings. From a young age Rebecca began to paint and draw patterns. Some of her earliest memories were of prints on clothes and wallpapers. It was no surprise then when later in life she went to study a degree in Textile design at Chelsea College, The University of Arts London, selling her final collections to catwalk designers Calvin Klein and Guess. On graduating Rebecca continued to paint alongside working in fashion buying and most recently as a photographic stylist. Working with a variety of acrylic mediums and mixed media, each work explores Rebecca’s passion for colour and form. Her creative process includes mark making, pattering and layering paint to creative her signature look. She paints spontaneously and intuitively trying not to focus on the end result too much, letting the brush marks, splotches and spills occur. Often they will become part of the work itself, which is a process that Rebecca loves. Her aim is to create work that brings positivity and joy into people’s homes through her passion for colour.

Blue Bay Swoon, Original painting, Landscape, Abstract, Sky

Finest Italian cotton canvas gloss glazing (not plasticy but we'll protected) loveliest mint turquise very delicate (much better than on this photo) colour tiny boats floating and dropping shade from their hull into the crystal clear coral & sand bay florescent orange bouys * all the paints, canvas, finishes used for this artwork are of professional artist (not student) quality 1.8 cm projection off the wall crisp white edge - thin line - perfect for a versatile framing *bear in mind its much nicer mintier colours and beautiful light locked in. No camera is sensitive enough to reflect these amazing colours. You have my absolute promise its way more impressive in person. The Blue Bay collection is inspired by my apre-reggatta sailing experience in Devon. Growing up on the shores of the Caspian Sea and many adventures in the tropical seas across Caribbean, Brazil, Mediterranean and Indian Ocean I've been lucky to travel through. Having first hand regatta experience, I can honestly say - Champagne-on-the-deck is the kind of sailing I find most enjoyable and the kind of feel I transcend into my marine paintings. Care and stress free. Sun and salt in your hair. Reflections on water. Endless horizon views. It's also my take on the areal photography craze and attempt to create my very own get away reality where your eyes sink into the peaceful bliss. The series explore the idea of escape from urban stress and into the lavish tropical horizon Paintings are created with watercolour and a layer of oil boats - two stroke wonder, created to complete the minimal look of this highly successful seascape collection. Migration: The Sky Breaker, Original painting, Landscape, Abstract, Clouds, Blue
Located in Deddington, GB
PROCESS: The underpainting is done with watercolour. This is really tricky for few reasons. It took me a considerable amount of time to work out the canvas maker that is suitable for the effect. For the paint to give me these beautiful semi translucent washes, the cotton has to be the right grain and correctly primed. The underpainting takes very little room for mistake and even now sometimes I scrap the canvas and start all over. There is very special fast drying medium used to cover delicate layers with the right amount of thin oil paint and to make the pigment more fade resistant and prevent from any yellowing. This stage is repeated many times to build the satisfactory depth. I then go with a tiny brush to go over the edges and borders, adding definition with acrylic. Final two - the signature, usually on the front (but some paintings I leave unsigned on the front till they are sold, so the buyer can cast his/her wish to see my surname on the front or back of the artwork). STORY: The Migration collection is intend to capture the subject of departure focusing on positive effects of separation, leaving, breaking ties. The paper airplane is a faceless portrait...
